Indeed. I would assume the homologation process is not too different from the way it is done in GTE.

I'm wondering what will/won't be allowed in the Hypercar LMP1 regs. The front wing and huge tunnels on the Valkyrie can't be legal per the ACO, right?

Also, Graham from DSC in the non-ACO specific Aston Martin Racing thread said that the Valhalla was supposed to form the original basis for AMR's LMP1 Hypercar. I wonder what changed that and what form a Valhalla influenced LMP1 might have taken, be it GTE+ or a DPI-like LMP1 like what Toyota's might very well be.

I'm not 100% but the article I linked to from Japanese Autosport seemingly says that the under body is more open than the current regs.

Anyone know whether these cars will need to have BHH/BHF. Or could we finally be rid of that sh*te due to the slower speeds, roadcar cues etc.

I'm guessing fin will still be there but maybe some leeway on the fender holes?

Was wondering the same thing. I would think it would be harder to enforce because the car dimensions are not defined in the same way. The current regs require the fin to have a surface area of 3 sq metres. You're not going to get a 3 sq m fin on a Valkyrie without it looking like a yacht. Maybe require a fin at roof height back to the rear wing? Hopefully they get scrapped altogether.

Also, the cars will be significantly heavier so maybe that will help to keep them on the ground, GTE-style.

I guess the fin should not be very different than the AMR Pro.

Good point on the weight, GTE cars didn't have the same flying problem as LMP1, but then again they weren't going as fast.

Go ask TMG and Multimatic's aero departments. Because wind tunnel testing is part of the homologation process now you just have to have the car wind tunnel or CFD certified to meet the aerodynamic stability targets rather than mandating specific features to make sure any car can. How achievable that will be without the existing devices isn't something any of us are qualified to answer.

Wheel arches may be a non-continuous surface (holes, grooves, louvers, openings or cut-outs) if required to accomplish the aerodynamic safety stability criteria as defined by Article 3.11, provided that the visibility requirements above are respected.

They should just run that thing and call it a day. Maybe make the wing a little higher or whatever but that thing looks like it's 99% ready to go.

Throw some racing Michelins on it and let her rip on the track. I'd pay to see that!

Aston's Chris Goodwin again reiterating on the N24 coverage that we can expect privateer Astons on the grid - seemingly from the outset.

Or is that the factory effort will seem like a privateer effort?

Sorry, that was uncalled for. to Aston.

Last time that Aston has been in top Le Mans category we all know how the story finished. Their priority can't be selling cars to privateers, but to build a double-stint car in first place.

Fortunately for them the car is already 'built'. They need to test it and all that first but being based on the road Valkyrie is already a better deal than the last attempt.

that livery is because of an AMR / redbull promotional event during f1 silverstone week-end.

And Red Bull did MOST of the work on the car. It's a Red Bull pet project to make such a car and keep Newey engaged and entertained.

So Aston Martin lost almost $100m in 2Q19 and their share price is down 75% since their IPO in April. I’m not liking the chances of an expanded AMR racing program and their ability to move forward as an independent company.
