I think I've got at least one photo of the car somewhere- I'll have a look.

I can't remember whether it ever ran in Thundersaloons or not though.

I've definitely got some Thundersaloon pics somewhere- I'll see what else I can find (just need to get the hang of posting them then....)

driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
the hooker built escort is not the car you talk about that was mk3 shape not 2
it was lola f3000 suspension based car and had a big v8
that car has been sold a year or 2 back as a shell

the Milton brothers had 2 litre mk 2 bde modified saloon escort then they had a go at thundersaloons possibly with YB turbo
i think someone needs to dig out the programmes !!

Escort

Is this the Hooker mk 3 escort?
without resorting to the programs, I thought oatway & Divina Galica drove this at some point in thundersports

Don't remember the Hooker car in TS but pretty sure it matches the given description.

The Minton brothers ran an Escort with a 2.3 Hart 420 lump.

Over the years many Thundersaloon races must have been caught on film, there are/were videos available of some of the races in the 90s. I have a vid of Brands 88 from Norcros (Thundersaloon series sponsor), some TVS coverage plus personal film.
Any one else got video of TS?

I'll take some pictures of the Escort when I'm next up against it at Harewood in July (BBQ hillclimb). The last event at MIRA they had a ban on cameras 8(

I'll look through my old photo's at home to see what else I can find. Jim also raced a Tiga at the same time as his Honda Legend, he was quite the racer.

After 3 years asleep... thought it was a good idea to resurrect this thread, particularly as one of these has come up for sale.

Gregor if you're watching... fancy starting another project with one of your dad's old cars !

Don't tempt me, someone else has already asked!! Funnily enough I don't remember Dad driving this but the seller said there was an article in CCC which I've not dug out yet, might do so tonight.

I wonder if that Honda Legend is the same car that Ron Cumming owned in the early 90s?

Must have been when i was not about Gregor as i dont remember Gerry driving one either.

If he did it was in a series i did not see, and as i have marshalled extensively since 1969 i would have seen at least once, nor do i remember Smith or Galica in the car.
So would be interested in the reported article to jog my memory.

The seller has said it's in CCC March '89, one of the few I haven't got.

It was definitely Mike Smith's car, not the DJ but the sportscar racer, typical motor racing story, one of Dad's friends has been after a road going HSR and whenever I see anything I send it to him, I sent this "heap of junk" in his words to him last week. Anyway he was having a lovely lunch in the BRDC on the Friday of the GP and happened to be sitting next to Mike Smith and this came up in conversation. I can't go into the details as I had a cryptic message left on my answerphone but I believe it to be the right thing other than Dad and Davina Galicia driving but the seller has promised to e-mail me the scanned article this evening so I'll let you know how we get on!!

This is probably the Pipeline Induction Chevette of Mike Smith which he shared with Ian Flux apart from a Brands round (July 86) when Divina Galica drove instead of Ian.

Martin has e-mailed it through to me, it's entitle Blue Thunder and was then known as the Rovette due to it's Rover V8...do you see what they've done there?!?! I blame Chudecki for that one!!

Still not sure of the link to Dad (Gerry Marshall), he is mentioned, but fleetingly. I'll try and work out how to post these on here but if someone wants me to e-mail them 4 images to them and post I don't mind, bit busy this evening unfortnuately!!

The ThunderSaloons had to have the steel shell the car orginally came with, in its original position, while the superloons i think had even less rules so the chassis could be any construction and GRP shells????

I think the steel shell idea was good and would still work today, I think it went down the pan after that.

The original shell idea was never dropped from Thundersaloons, was it? The championship just seemed to fade away ('85-'95 ish?). IIt was very different from the rear-engined hybrids featuring in Super-/Special-saloons that came before and ran concurrently (50s or 60s, mid 70s with SuperSaloons such as Baby Bertha, then the rear-engined DAF or Skoda stuff, and on into the 80s with Wendy Wools etc).

the steel shell rule never got dropped from Thundersaloons. One of the several reasons the series faded was in the early 90's the series treid to compete with the BTCC, and thus told everyone to have cars in production inside the last 3 years, which wiped out most the grid.

Most people needed more cars, added to the economiic downturn and other factors meant the series went away.

there is more info and discussion (inc drivers from the series) on this in the National Racing area with the (big) thread on Thundersaloons. cant remember where it is slipped to but yo can't miss it.

I'm intrigued by the claim of 19 race wins. The thundersaloon programme I have from '92 claims a brace of previous wins, and the car was hardly on the pace that year to take any more.

Who is the current owner? In '92 it was driven by Don Manley (and someone else, but the prog is currently packed away so I can't find out who) - were they the owners after Nick Oatway?

I might have been interested in that at about 7 or 8k but i have too many projects on the go, I tell thats a tighter squeeze than my black car in that engine bay.
