Ferrari have a good half a second over the rest of the field.

So it will be a Ferrari 1-2 in quali and a Ferrari 1-2 in the race, without doubt.

The battle for the last podium place might be somewhat more interesting though...

Massa holds the key to the Ferrari 1-2 really. Will he keep it on the island all day?

He seemed to have a tough old time today.

So many drivers seemed to lose half a second in the last sector. Poor handling or sandbagging? It looks like it's Kimi's to lose.
Hamilton great to watch on board I thought. I love the new regs as the cars are just so much better to watch. They even make Barcelona look a bit interesting.
It will be a boring race because it always is there!

Barcelona isn't too bad a track, in fact it looks fun to drive (apart from that ruinous last chicane they put in last year). And the atmosphere looks good since Alonso rose to fame.

It falls down purely as a racing venue.

I'm sure the drivers are bored already, seeing as they do half their testing there.

You can be sure most of the people watching it will post to tell us how boring it is/was.

Tell you what.

Let's just give the Fezzas 18 points now and bugger off to the beach.

Fernando's given up already! Will the grandstands still be full on Sunday or will everyone have gone to the beach?

The chicane is awful. Its too slow to operate as any kind of overtaking generator, it needed to be the kind of speed of one of the Magny Cours chicanes, (perhaps a tad slower) in order to generate any passing into T1.

Maybe it's a little more tricky without TC ? *Heads off to ITV website for a quick look*

RaiseYourFist has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
If Ferrari manage a 1-2 here I doubt it will be any different in Turkey which is a similar high speed / hard on the front tires track

The rabbit ears don't really show Honda are in big trouble; they're unlikely to be worth a substantial amount performance-wise anyway. Since the technical rules have been stable now for 3-4 years, teams are looking for every possible gain they can find, particularly since the midfield is so tight every single tenth counts. Something like the rabbit ears on the Honda is probably worth about half a tenth per lap at best.

As for the circuit; up until 2003 the layout was excellent from a drivers point of view but they then tightened the T10 left-hander into a horribly fiddly 1st gear hairpin from a 2nd/3rd gear sweep and then got rid of the fantastic downhill sweepers at the end of the lap in place of the sort of chicane that is about as inappropriate as the tyrewall chicane they had in 1994! The whole point of the changes was to try to improve the racing....which failed miserably, so all it has done is emasculate the last third of the lap. That said it is possible the SECU might might might make a difference as the T10 hairpin and the new chicane are the sort of zone where the lack of TC will be most apparent...

Practice highlights were interesting. Podiums for both Renaults and spins aplenty up and down the field. What do we think?

It looks like Massa might be planning to make his own weekend difficult again, after he dropped it yesterday!

Podium or not, I look forward to the prospect of Renault joining the big guns again.

No doubt about it JC. Interesting how we see that so different.

Webber looked pretty strong on Friday, not sure where he ended-up this morning.
