I am always amazed at the power and ability of PR people, I am also amazed at the ability of the public to swallow the drivel that PR people put out.
In the last week we have seen Katherine made a member of the BRDC Rising Stars and feature in a two page article in Autosport telling us that she's going to get to Formula 1. The record shows that so far this year she has achieved:- 1 sixteenth place finish 1 DNF (she crashed whilst behind the safety car) 1 Exclusion (for dangerous driving) Leaving her 29th in the championship. Surely there are more deserving cases, or am I bigoted? |

to a degree i agree with clyde ankle about the rising star initiative thing. there's more deserving MALE drivers, sure, but katherine's getting there, and supporting her and promoting her is a good way of getting girls to think 'hey, i can do this too'.
katherine got pole at oulton simply by producing a very good lap at a track she knew well, and was peviously quick at. anything can happen during qualifying... |

Katherine is a lovely girl and a damn sight quicker driver than me, but she is not at the standard to compete at the pointy end of F.Renault - she is normally comfortably around 17th or so ... suddenly to grab pole position at Oulton Park is rather "unusual", with most knowledgeable spectators commenting on the different engine noise from Katherine's car ... (I'm not casting aspersions, just relaying what many many knowledgeable FR guys (yes, some are competitors!!) were saying - but I noticed it too, and I'm not so knowledgeable) ... funny how, after a strong scrutineering session, she was back in her usual position at Thruxton. She's a good girl, a good driver and god knows she's better looking than Danny Watts, but she's not pole position material on her own merits, sorry for saying so. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against her at all, I love her dearly, and she features in many of my kinkier dreams, but I have to say it like I see it.

Interesting point of view Mr Jinxx! - You're the first person I've heard say that Katherine's car sounded different to the others at Oulton Park - and I probably spoke to at least one person from each FR team during the course of the Oulton Park weekend.. Don't see how other competitors could know - from their own cockpits I'd be surprised if they could hear anything other than the sound of their own engines - and of course it couldn't be a case of sour grapes cos a few ole bigots (you know who you are!) can't accept that a woman could be at the front of the grid.
I'd be the first to accept that Pole at Oulton has not been reflected in the rest of Katherine's season so far, but as I've said before, anyone who saw her testing during the week would not have been surprised by her pole position - she likes the track at Oulton Park and everything went right for her in the qualifying session - end of story - let's not forget that Ryan Sharp was also much better here than on his previous outings (with the exception of that amazing test at Croft) but I doubt that anyone's analysing recordings of his engine's sound. Thruxton was a disappointment all round - but at testing earlier in the year it certainly wasn't one of her better tracks. She's certainly preparing hard for Silverstone and determined not to disappoint her many fans. Won't disagree with you that's she's better looking than Danny Watts though! (sorry Danny ;-) ) |

For a start to just test drive an F1 these days on a track on your own! You have to have an International A license from the MSA. They dont come for the asking, qualification is FIA championship win in F3 or F3000!
It ain't gunna happen! Sorry! Women lack the required upper body strength to drive at the current level of G...that's it! |

Why do you think weight lifters do one lift then go rest? GP drivers are trained for the job in hand, not showing off bulging muscles! Years ago there was a TV competition called 'Super Stars' Jody Sheckter out performed all the famous athletes at bench press and press ups. These days GP drivers and their trainers have made it even more of a science. Horses for courses!... "dude" |

There's nothing to say a woman cant drive an F1 car. She might have to train harder, but its not impossible

So because Bernie says it is must be true? He might work to ensure that a woman wont be in F1, but he doesnt control physiology ergo he cant suddenly declare that women arent strong enough.

Anyway in a few years time there will be so many driver aids that a chimpanzee could drive an F1 car! Joke! But then again... |

As for whether a woman will make it, I have to admit that it's less likely that a woman will make it than a man. There are women's and men's classes in most sports except motorsport, and 9 times out of 10 the men's records are further/faster than the women's. But what should Katherine have answered when asked whether she'd get to F1? "Errr... it'd be nice, but I don't know..."? Yeah, that'd please the sponsors. There are plenty of male drivers out there who believe that they'll get to F1, and not all of them are better than Katherine. |

Thought you meant it was the criteria for every country's motorsport governing body, not just the UK MSA, and when you said "championship win" in F3 or F3000 I now know you in fact meant to type "championship race win" in either category. So how come you can qualify for an International A through an overseas MSA with less than the qualifications required in the UK? |
