Naw, wings don't really come into play on start-stop circuits as they depend on airflow and that increases with speed.

It depends on the layout of the street circuit. Some have had a number of very quick corners, like both iterations of the Molson Indy Vancouver course.
As for GT2 vs. GT3, well more aero on the GT2 can hurt on the straights, but then, as street circuits are stereotypically maligned for their tight corners, they are also criticized for, generally, not having very long straights. On another note though, the GT2s have wider tires, and that aero does help in the braking zones. (Test it out and see which set of trade-offs is the better combination for a street circuit.) |

San Francisco would be fun to watch if they went in a layout similar to the Bullitt car chase scene.
(Sadly this would be suicide due to how steep the hills are...) |

Hello city challenge website! (Click on company for a three minute concept video.)
The general aim of this seems to be bringing racing closer to the masses. Last edited by I Rosputnik; 1 Aug 2012 at 15:03. |

If the reward is subjected to BoP, then I would find quite smart to publish the BoP few weeks before accepting inscriptions, in one round events there should not be any suspicious comments about unfair BoP, so no one can blame the Fia about the event results.
Well as the BoP is subject to the layout that's impossible so all cars must be transported to baku to test the BoP, so the BoP once again has to be very accurate... Last edited by urdragon; 28 Aug 2012 at 18:56. Reason: Wrong idea |

Never seen a series that pays such large amounts for teams to come. Usually there are entry fees, not entry rewards. Paying 5.000 per entry, hotel rooms, and shipping costs? Does not seem like a sustainable business model. I could understand that the teams that have committed so far probably would not have done so if they had to flip the bill. Maybe Ratel should start paying teams to come to GT1/GT3 championship races.

I would suggest that the whole concept behind this is not to make money but to act as PR/advertisement for the location involved - especially due to the places involved.
No team is going to ship all their equipment to Azerbaijan for a non-championship race without a decent incentive, so I would imagine that the German company running it has received a large amount to host the event and that fee is divided up accordingly. At the end of the day, if it works for the cities themselves, it's a novel enough idea that it could provide a few eastern-European season-ending races to watch. As the post in the other thread about street races infers, I doubt the events will last many years each, but if one does stick and they can turn it into a GT version of Macau (yes, I know there is...) then all power to them. "City Challenge is bringing [people] together to celebrate a more sustainable future for our cities." - my favourite part of the website... |

I figured as much. I'll admit to not knowing much about the city or the country for that matter until I did some research after seeing the race information, so their PR is working. Don't think they will get their return on investment by enlightening some petrolheads on a forum though. Will there be any streaming of the event? I might actually bother watching since the motorsport calendar is pretty dry that weekend. The final Blancpain round is the next weekend though, can't imagine that will help bring in many entries.

Anyone think the growing tensions with Armenia could potentially put a spanner in the works?
