In 2024, each F1 team will support one driver. The remaining drivers will have series sponsors.

I expect the F1 Academy to change any rules overnight, so I'm not the least surprised by that.

F1 acadamy
Just read in Autosport that Doriane Pin has been penalised for driving another lap after the chequered flag-surly the most stupid penalty ever?

This really was a team error. They did not count down the laps for her. Did not say the race was over. Did not give her a post race instruction on where to park. They did not answer her radio calls until they noticed she was doing an extra lap. There is no flag on the dash for the chequer. Additionally, there was a DigiFlag box in front of where the chequer was, so easy to miss the physical flag. This is a Formula 4 level series and the team should be looking after the driver more. There is no way for them to know the lap number without the team. |

God knows how us old timers ever managed to see a chequered flag without a digital display on our steering wheels or someone shouting in our ears, the races must have gone on until we ran out of petrol. Either that or we had superhuman powers.
No real sympathy from here, as you can tell. Sent from my AC2003 using Tapatalk |

Unless you old timers counted down the laps manually. Up hill in both directions in 8 feet of snow. |

Young drivers are supposedly taught to see yellow, red and checkered flags by themselves.
Esteban Guerrieri once had radio issues in Indy Lights, so he had to look at the scoring tower to know the number of laps left. |

I'm sure they are. But the flag was not visible and the position of the flag was adjusted for the next session. There were no flags in view until the race director flew a red flag, and then Pin immediately slowed down.
I don't think we should be relying on drivers using a scoring tower to work out what safety rules they should be obeying. The penalty is justified. You cannot have cars travelling at speed on a circuit when the race is done. However, anyone saying that it is her fault for not having X-Ray vision, and the team not answering her on the radio, is being unrealistic. She requested the information and was given nothing back. |

I didn't manage to see this, but "Car X has taken the chequered flag twice" is sadly a regular occurrence at all levels of UK motorsport from novices in club racing right through to people at the top end of their respective championships.
It produces an instant invitation to see the Clerk of the Course, do not pass Go (again), do not collect £200, do not go to the podium (if you were). I've been trackside shoving cars from gravel traps after final lap shenanigans and heard that over the radio. I've also been on the other end of the radio yelling at all and sundry to be extremely careful as car X is bearing down on them. It gives me the chills. |

People are also forgetting that F1 Academy is F4 level. The level of criticism these drivers get compared to the GB4 drivers is a bit uncomfortable. |

It also needs to reminded the chequered flag was waved by some celebrity person in this race and ever since Pele waved Takuma Sato as the first car in 2002 Brazilian Grand Prix one has to account for 'human error' with these celebs who can screw up the easy part.

In other news, Hamda Al Qubaisi had a special livery at Singapore. Red Bull had done a world contest, but the glittery winning design was deemed too heavy for F1...
The winning designer was Caroline Stock, which sounds like an upcoming Nascar driver, but is in fact Uruguayan. https://www.f1academy.com/Latest/395...-custms-livery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAudhW_RGbw |
