I think if a series was confident that it could attract a lot more drivers than the required 25, it could afford to be a lot more choosy as to who got the 25 seats.

Ahhh yes, a race in Morocco, how helpful for sponsors... And almost as fast as WSR? We will have to wait and see, it's quite a gap and the car is no Dallara. But really the problem is that the series moves away from its concept and into a market place which is fairly crowded. If GP3 is seen as a needless addition, then what is this?

Agreed about concept , but personally i didnt like it for many reasons.

But all i wanted to say that what they do is marketing - they had very low price for first year and too many drivers wanted to get there. Now they understandably increasing the price, but they also increase performance - so nothing wrong with it.

If they suddenly fails against gp3 they still can reduce price etc , but i dont think it will needed. Also we still have f-master and renault eurocup for older price (200-250.000 euro) to compete.

While old price was 250.000-270.000 euro and the price & speed were the same as in formula master or formula 3.

Maybe now it will become formula2 ( before it was only formula super palmer audi).
It'll only be a real Formula 2 when isn't single entity and has several chassis and engine suppliers. Based on the spare parts bins of many series it would be perfectly possible to do that, but it wouldn't be at a similar level to this series, it would be more like GP2 or Formula Nippon.

The only real winner is JP, its a kick in the teeth for FIA's new 200k series, which a year after jumps up 30%, more so in a period of a global financial crisis! What joke!

The difference in speed between a WSR and F2 at somewhere like Spa is just under 6s and 5s at Barcelona so their upgrades are going to have to be significant to bring it closer to WSR and I dont reckon they are going to be more than 1.5s faster max.

The basic budget is now £275k but with testing, travel, accomadation your gonna be looking at close to £400k and you could do f3 for that

Alexander Sims spent £700,000 this season in the F3 Euroseries. F2 is still a bit cheaper.

You don't have travel, accomodation and testing cost in other formula then!!!!! As it is F2 is for drivers that don't have the budget to do WSR, F3 or GP2 and gives them an alternative to keep racing in single seaters. Brit. F3 budget this year was +500k to win. Thats a lot more than F2. There were full grids of paying drivers all year in F2, what other series can say that. Its not ideal but it works at the moment. I prefer F3 as a driver development series, but they need to be more price competetive. there is still to big a difference in budget. £125K is a lot of testing, travel and accomodation??? like to travel with you.

I agree - at the end of the day, if nothing else F2 does offer a genuine alternative for drivers who might not be able to raise the budget to do GP2, WSR, even F3 Euroseries. If nothing else it has also (and will continue to) help push down the cost of some series like British F3, which can only be a good thing for motorsport.

I see your point, but as others have said that still leaves the series quite a bit cheaper than alternatives. Also it seems two drivers will be testing in F1 next month (Botolotti and Soucek), which isn't a bad record for a low-cost series in its first year surely?

Alex K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
You have to think that testing is limited, so some of them need to buy mileage somewhere else, like in F3?! You have to think about it if you want to succeed. There is a need in adding crash bills to overall cheque.

This is very true, but is also the case in most formula. Possibly the only formula/series I can think of that give plenty of quality testing included in series is UK formula renault. A driver entering a series like F2 really needs to of done high milage competetive series successfully prior to entering this, to have adequate experience. I believe to that next season F2 will be putting on extra test days for those wanting to take advantage. Not sure if this is a good thing, has its pros and cons.

Karun Chandhok has made reference on Twitter to his friend "Parthiv" participating in the F2 test. I can only assume that's Parthiva Sureshwaren

He only did 2 rounds, one in season 2 and one in season 3, so he hardly got time in the car. He wasn't atrocious anyway, he wasn't the quickest but there have been many slower drivers.

I'm not shure i understood your question right but everything seems to point towards Felix beeing in F2 next year. For example this interview with Jonathan Palmer on his site: http://eng.felixracing.se/news/q-a-w...nathan-palmer/

I see Jonathan Summerton is trying to raise the budget to do F2 next season.

I thought Summerton was going to be a USF1 driver due to the way Peter Windsor was talking about him. If he got an F2 drive I reckon he would be a strong contender.

Trouble is, so is the diference between F2 and GP2 budgets!! I think GP2 would suit every driver (and would be) in the world. Unfortunately only the very privaledged can ever afford GP2.

Well Summerton himself is talking of F2 and a shot at the Indy 500. Said he needed to raise $600k for F2 and $500K for the 500.

Probably given up on Peter Windsor, as he seems to have just about every out of work single seater driver cosying up to him (or vice versa!) right now.
