https://www.touringcartimes.com/2020...ecent-history/ - Of course, most of these cars raced and the Volvo C70's already been mentioned, the S2000 Saab hasn't.

From a previous thread but edited (i.e. with everything related to the BTCC taken out as there is a separate similar thread for that series in the Motorsport History Section):
STW: If Peugeot had continued racing into 1999, Aiello would in all likelihood have been their no.1 driver. Matt Neal and Dynamics (?) were planning to race at Macau in 1999, supported by Nissan. There was to have been a second car too, a "big name" (Damon Hill?) Matt Neal was to have driven at Macau in 1998 for the Nissan works squad NISMO, but the deal fell through. STCC: Mattias Ekström was signed and presented as Honda's main driver for 1999, but couldn't find the sponsorship needed. Hubert Bergh thus got the drive instead. STCC: Mats Lindén was to have driven the second works Opel, but for some reason (lack of money I suppose) it didn't come off. Tord Linnerud, who had been Lindén's strongest contender for the seat, was touted as a possible replacement with support from Opel Norway, but in the end he ran a Vectra as a privateer. |

Combination of a sponsor pulling out at the same time as Phil Bennett coming along with lots of money but not much talent. Egg Sport meant they could also sign up James Thompson.

Also, 6 Alfa 147's? Enzo Mucci dodged not so much a bullet as a mobile ticking time bomb there. |

Wasn't there a BTCC development series intended for 2016? The BKR team were originally going to enter it. I believe it was called BTEC?

Yes that was BTEC and yes BKR were going to enter, but lack of entries ended it. TCR UK and TCT has been slightly more successful

Also the 1998 RAC Tourist Trophy was called off due to it being so soon after Bathurst

Also, if MG Rover had survived and been able to enter the DTM in 2005, Tom Chilton would have been their lead driver. They looked into running the ZT260, originally with possibly four entries before deciding on two, other drivers mentioned included Anthony Reid, Johnny Herbert and Jeroen Bleekemolen.
