It will be interesting to compare the pace of the LM/sprint Audis in traffic. At Silverstone the #2 just had the pace over #8 in clear air, but the Toyota's hybrid put it back on the Audi's rear in traffic.

At least their low drag setup should be better for Spa.

At silverstone, audi screwed up strategy which in turn screwed up their drivers, forcing them to make due with a car that was a handful under present race conditions. As far as I could tell from their pure pace, they were clearly faster than toyota who were only able to claw back (some) time when the prototypes hit traffic.

I'm certain Audi has not shown their true speed yet, and I'm pretty sure they'll win unless they screw up. Its their race to lose.

The only place where Audi is truly at a disadvantage vs Toyota will probably be Le Mans.

Yep if it will stay dry that will help a lot.

While practice and qualifying have a good chance of being wet, it looks like race day will be totally dry

Adding this tidbit of info here... Rebellion will have both their entries as the R-One. The Lola car ran 890kg at Silverstone and used the older Toyota engine. Their new car has the new engine and weighs 850kg. It should be a bit faster than the Lola!

Really? But why did Audi feel it necessary to keep their drivers out on a wet circuit with dry tyres on? They seemed a little desperate, whereas previously it's been the other way round.

Audi gambled on strategy and hoped the rain would go away so to reduce time spent in the pits. That wasn't the case and it backfired badly. I agree with Dimension, early on in the race, the Audi clearly had the speed.

On best laps, Audi were only 2 tenths faster than Toyota. No way they would have went as deep in a stint either. At least 1 possibly 2 laps less than Toyota and Porsche. When Audi took the lead they didn't pull a gap either. The #7 was less than a second behind the lead Audi before it pit. Its going to be a close race at Spa if everything goes well for these guys. Porsche has good top speed, but Toyota has two LM spec cars with Audi running one. Maybe a mini preview of Le Mans!

Do we know if Toyota will use low-drag or high downforce or one of each on their cars in spa?

Low drag on both. Same as Porsche. Only the #3 is low drag for Audi.

It didn't rain for long, and they knew that would happen, so believed the track would dry faster. As it is it was freezing and the track stayed wet. If it had dried quick they would have been away.

I think Audi will definitely look to be on the right tyres at the right time if it rains at Spa.

Since Derek Bell waved the green flag at Silverstone, it would have been logical to have Jacky Ickx do the same thing at Spa.

... but no, they got one of those two's old teammates, Jochen Mass. http://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/j...rshal-for-spa/
