I think perhaps he said he wanted to retire and the team suggested that he did it early, giving them a chance to try a possible replacement in the final race. It certainly makes sense from their point of view - I can't see the benefit to a driver of stopping a race early.

I can't see the benefit of a one race tryout myself. At Interlagos of all places!

Not ideal, but perhaps a better reflection than just testing?

Class Act
Good bye and good luck to one of F1s true class acts. I'll miss Wurz because he lived by our long mantra "when the green flag drops, the bullsh*t stops."
And because he acted a complete gentleman. Can't imagine him in all the "throwing of the bull" such as seen by Ferrari, McLaren, Lewis & Freddie. You'll be missed, Alex. |

Great guy, great driver too - too many years of testing and not enough racing left him was a rather dissapointing season really, other than the podium in Canada. I hope he stays on as a test driver, he has a lot to offer in that regard. I hope he has good luck in his new racing projects too, as he says he could race at Le Mans again.
As for the replacement, it's gotta be Nakajima surley? He's already done some Friday testing with the team and thanks to the Toyota link he's on the shortlist for drivers next year. Last edited by Down F0rce; 8 Oct 2007 at 19:16. |

One good race doesn't make for an up and coming team. As opposed to why would he go to Williams? Surely it would be more a case of STR not letting him out of their sight.

Absolutely, Can't see Vettel going to Williams.....
I'm wondering that if the Williams-Tonio link has any substAnce then he leaves STR early and does the last race with them and perhaps Seabass does the last race for STR????? I think Alex has shown reasonable bottle to pack it in now rather than even do the last round. Maybe he felt he wouldn't be doing either the team or him justice anymore. Is he going to continue testing though as orignally thought? |

I don't belive Senna is with Adren anymore, so perhaps the Red Bull link isn't there. Maybe it is he who will replace Wurz, although "Senna in a Williams" would be a bit of a PR double-edged sword...
If Luizzi does end up in the Williams (doubtful IMHO, at least for this race) Toro Rosso would probably get RBR tester Ammermuller to drive. |

Actually - considering Toro Rosso's game plan for Brazil will be to score as many points as possible and maybe beat Toyota, I doubt they'd let Liuzzi go considering he had top 8 finishes (sorta) in two races. Williams need to defend against Red Bull as well - so why would Toro Rosso give them their driver? Nakajima's a bit risky for a first F1 race and with a need for points, Glock has already proven himself with Jordan that he has good 'get up and go' and would be the ideal candidate in my opinion - that is, if I was Williams boss for a day and had to hire anyone (realistically), I'd choose him. Though maybe Williams can borrow Piquet from Renault? More realistic local signing. |

The fact that he is brazilian, I guess everybody knows that, doesn't make him have links with the company. Unless you can provide a reliable information about this "link", it doesn't exist. And the supposed replacement earlier was more because Briatore negotiations than anything, with a heavy help of Piquet senior as an old Frank Williams friend. |

1.) i did not talk about links to start with if you did bother to read what i actually posted was: Quote:
2.) being Brazilian IS a link in a sense 3.) The reality that you need to negotiate with Flav if you want Piquet is hardly the surprise of the century but would you provide a reliable information to support that these negotiations involved the least bit of the fact that Piquet's father knows Frank Williams ? You seem to mention it as a fact. Did you take part in these negotiations? I'm dying to know what did they tell you about the financial aspects? Or it wouldn't have involved any money and the whole thing was based on Piquet Sr's and Sir Frank's friendship? odd. What i think tho is that it would have involved money (quite a large sum too), and that you and i dont know where that money coulda or woulda come from (possibly from sponsors or companies involved either at Renault's or William's side) but then again, i wasnt there. I'm sorry Alonso11, as usual, you don't like a friendly discussion.
I'm not suggesting that you or myself are stating things as true. I read your post, and I simply pointed out that there is no link between the driver and the company. And when I asked you to provide is because maybe you knew something we don't, can you follow me ? Why there is no link ? Because he's a brazilian, and Petrobras being brazilian would sponsor him... I don't think so. You asking to prove the non-existence of a link ? Well, check his official site : http://www.piquetsports.com.br, if there's something about Petrobras there, at least it would be very strange, since ELF is one of his sponsors. But to help a little, the only brazilian sponsor there is OI a mobile phone company. What else ? Quote:
