If you look at the complete history of F1 5 women have tried Grands Prix racing, only 2
have actually raced in Grands Prix, only one managed to finish in the top 6 in a shortened race. Women have managed to score 0.5 points since the world championship started. RIGHT!! rant on... It really really winds me up when people go spouting statistics just based on F1 World championship - bloody hell women were motor racing pioneers, just go and visit the Barbara Cartland (yes that one) room at Brookland, a woman held the outer circuit lap record there for a bit, women have been winning races for almost as long as the sport has existed... look beyond F1 people - it should be noted that women can be just as good as men at anything pretty much motor racing wise... just perhaps they don't get the same breaks... It shouls also be noted that women run this sport Last edited by ss_collins; 8 Dec 2004 at 11:56. |

agreed ss-c; I read an obit in the Telegraph a few days ago of just such a lady. Apparently had her Brooklands Gold Star and only agreed to marry her man once he had gained his - liked her style !

It will not matter where you look in motorsport history you will find successful women
drivers but in major events very few have won. Michelle Mouton is the only girl to cosistently beat men at the highest level.Lillian Bryner, Ellen Lohr, Hannelore Werner, Desire Wison, Divina Galica and going right back Kaye Petre and Gwenda Hawkes all had their day.The trouble with facts is , they are facts, and motorsport thrives on facts. |

depends how you define a major event - winnig a gold star aint exactly easy....
I research motorsport history pretty much every day at a professional level and it incredible how many women beat the men over the years... just do some looking - motorsport did not begin or end with F1 and the WRC |

Well with women more and more being car buyers may be some of the F! team owners and sponsors will get their heads out the sand and give one of these fast ladys a try. You never know it may actually help sell a few cars to the girls, mind you I don't know how well it would go down in Bernie's new stomping grounds, namely Muslim countries were a woman driver in some states is not even allowed to drive on the road let alone in an F1 car and heaven forbid if should actually win.

The basic fact is that only a very small percentage of the people who start out on a career at the bottom rung of the ladder ever get near the top, and women are a very small percentage of those that start.
It is therefore less likely that the really good ones are in there to start with. It does seem that the ones that are good enough have as much chance of making their way to the top as their male counterparts. |

According to:http://www.formulawoman.com/news/
"Formula Woman steps into Saloon As revealed in Motorsport News today (24th Nov) Formula Woman will be running an all female team in saloon cars next year. Several drivers are being considered for the team and the idea is to allow Formula Woman 'graduates' to progress up the motor sport ladder. Also revealed is that assessments will be taking place throughout 2005 for all those applicants selected, with a new novice Formula Woman Championship taking place in 2006. Further news on Formula Woman plans will be revealed at The Autosport International Show at Birmingham’s NEC 13 - 16th Jan 2005. " What I really don't understand is why they seem to have got dates booked on the calendar for next year? hrug: Dave |
