seems to be an evolution of last years car, no bad thing, but will that wing be another of bars ideas that get made illegal.

Looks like a very smart bit of design work.
Looks much more svelte than the Williams tusker...still the proof of the pudding.... I agree...after a few years of "clones", 2005 looks like innovation is on the up....just what the doctor ordered. Cheers Peter |

Shaping up to be an interesting, but above all varied looking grid for Australia. Probably best not to get too excited though, as has been pointed out, much was expected of last years Williams and little delivered. I for one live in hope though!

[QUOTE=Dov]Imo, the BAR "James Bond" 007's front wing looks a bit like a Lola ChampCar.[QUOTE] Just for an instant there i thought someone had posted a picture of this years Jordan, thank goodness it's not!

The BAR front seems to be to get some of the front wing closer to the ground (or the part that is allowable) and also to increase the gap between the nose and the wing. This should increase the effeciency of the front wing and help the airflow through the rest of the car. By contrast the gap on the Toyota seems quite small, although that may change. |

agreed on getting the central 500mm wide section as low as possible, not as sure regarding getting the nose as far away from the wing, It's probably got more to do with running a lower nose section, and hence have a lower CoG. That nose certainly looks lower than last years car.
Rest of it looks pretty neat and tidy, I notice they've followed toyotas path for supporting the rear wing sections (two struts centrally mounted). Theres a few other things too, like the scuplted sidepods, and the very different horizontal guide vanes, similar to something renault had on their barge boards last year. Also, I don't if it's just me, but overall the car looks shorter, so maybe a shorter wheelbase (as I understand it the 006 was one of the longest cars in the pitlane last year). otherwise pretty much an evolution of last years car, on the outside at least. regards Ed |

Looking at the photos it does seem that the car has shrunk by a fair margin, the mind boggles at how quick that chassis will be able to turn in.
It's a nice looking car and certainly a more subtle evolution than Toyota and Sauber have gone for, the more I look at the photos the more the tiny details of the BAR shine through. I'm not sold on the livery, but the added red on the engine cover for Honda is a nice touch. |

These current F1 cars arent asthetic...they're the result of regulation measurements with wind tunnel results, whilst there will always be various of a theme, F1's are fascinating creatures of pure function.
Worst things for teams who use Barcelona for back to back data is that I hear they've resurfaced it!...That'll cause some head scratching! |

The rest of the test at Barcelona scheduled for the coming week is cancelled, due to oil leaking out of the new surface.
The teams are off to Valencia instead. |

Hmm, from the point of view of a layman, that looks aerodynamically pretty radical. The Flicks and veins starting at the sidepods back to the the rear wings look very intricate.
I wonder if any of the other teams will protest the clearance at the center of the front wing? |

They might look different... but i still cant see us having variation between the cars that involves some being 10mph faster down the straights, and some being 10mph faster around the corners.

Of course not, but the different design routes to the same goal is partly what makes F1 so interesting... especially in the off-season.

Besides, that is exactly what we had with the Renault in the last two years - the probem being that both "ways" produce good lap times.

The advantages are potentially
The only disadvantage that I can think of may be an increase in weight of the front wing due to its more complex design. Is the weight best spent there. Right at the front may be good depending on the rest of the car, but any ballast could be better employed. Maybe a beefed up front section would help the weight distribution, maybe not?
