If Bottas or Ricciardo can win tomorrow, it'll be 11 different winners in 11 years!
2007 – Felipe Massa 2008 – Kimi Raikkonen 2009 – Jenson Button 2010 – Mark Webber 2011 – Sebastian Vettel 2012 – Pastor Maldonado 2013 – Fernando Alonso 2014 – Lewis Hamilton 2015 – Nico Rosberg 2016 – Max Verstappen |

It's never been that great a circuit to race on. I think the most memorable races are :-
1991 : The first race held there. Senna and Mansell going wheel-to-wheel down the main straight with spark flying everywhere. Who would break last into the first corner? I doubt that sort of thing would happen with the modern day aero on the cars. 1992 : Held in the wet. A rare mistake from Senna in the wet - and he went off the track and didn't finish. Schumi looked superb and was managing to catch Mansell, but Mansell started going faster. A superb finish from Jean Alesi in third as well. 1994 : Schumi driving to a superb second with his car stuck in fifth gear for most of the race. 1996 : A superb win from Schumi. One of the his best races. In the wet and in the underpowered Ferrari - he took on both Williams and pulled out a massive lead to finish first, and took his first win for Ferrari. It's a shame that the chicane was put in before the last corner - as before that, it was one of the best corners in F1. Only decent thing about the track - in my opinion. |

Never doubt a motivated Spaniard! Well done Fernando! Hope he can pull off some points, now.

Was there not a year Hakkinen broke down on the final lap whilst winning? I kinda remember that. And Pastor winning and the Williams garage catching fire. |

Not really as the one that came out yesterday can go back in once they have sorted the water leak.

It appears there is going to be some unusual strategy in the Spanish GP as the medium tyre is 2 seconds slowed than the soft with the soft capable of 25 laps out of 66.
I can see some of those at the back running the medium for a few laps at the start. Those at the front going at least two stints on the soft to begin with the hope of a small number of laps on the medium to finish. If there is a potentially long safety car period then you could change to mediums for the safety car period and change back to soft before the safety car comes back in. http://classic.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/129501 |

10 place grid penalty for Vandoorne. Taking on new power unit elements.
BTW, anyone notice P2 is getting a better start than P1 in the supports? |

At least it's not Fred taking a 10 place grid penalty, how heartbreaking would that be to put in all that effort and have it thrown away. I can't help but admire him, how he got that slowmobile into the top ten, is beyond me

Initially a clean start as Vettel got the better of Hamilton but fairly messy going in to Turn 1. Raikkonen breaks his left front suspension and Massa gets a puncture.

The Bottas vs. Vettel battle was superb.

That was a strange move by Vandoorne. The VSC is out.

That was cutting it fine by Ferrari. Was Lewis forced off?

Bottas out, as his engine expires.

Huge plaudits to all involved in doing that |

Seriously Ferrari, you have the mediums to put on so it's a long final stint, due in within the next few laps, you gain 7-8 seconds if you pit under VSC, and yet Ferrari wait until the lap AFTER the VSC to pit?!
That's what cost them the race. Ferrari strategists are really poor. They're lucky to have got away with the first pit stops when they got tricked into pitting far too early. Overall though I think without the VSC Vettel had this race won. He was pulling away, gap probably would have been 10+ by the time he pitted, which would have been earlier thus would have pulled out further on fresh meds with Hamilton on old softs. |

What's the rules on Vettel overtaking the Haas under the Waved Yellows seen on the light board for Bottas's car. It did look like the Haas had slowed and moved aside to let Vettel pass.
Hamilton one turn later pulled level with the Haas where the marshals were working ( no danger to the marshals) then pulled clear once past them and Bottas's car and presumably at a green flag/light board. Race control didn't appear to notice at all. |

Congrats to Lewis. Mercedes got the better of Ferrari with their strategy. It might have been quite different without the VSC but that doesn't take anything away from Lewis.

Vettel and Hamilton both gracious on the podium.
So much different than last year with Nico. That race had it all. |
