Now I'm not suggesting that this is professional level, but I think you get the point.

Not for anything, but if Mario is better than all available alternatives, does that say something about the state of open wheel racing in America?

I'm not knocking Mario, he's #1 in my book, a living legend, and really just a good, decent man. I'm just questioning the wisdom of this.

So true. I suppose Philippe came to mind as an example of a one-off driver with no previous speedway experience, and not his ability as a racer. Yeah, I cringed too, when I reread it in the forum! A racing dentist he is not!

It certainly does speak to the conditions in the Invisible Racing League, that the only driver they can get to qualify a car for them is a 63 year old man whose last win at the IRL 500 was 15 years before most open wheelers were born.

BTW, with all these seats needing to be filled, is the perenniel favourite Memo Gidley being offered anything?

The Injured Racing League's next victim...Robby Gordon. Any bets on how many cars are going to finish the Injured 500? I say no more then 16 or 17 cars. Most of the cars will be doing this all day...

Do you think that Mario's involvement was becawuse they could find no one to drive? That seems a bit hard to believe, but who knows.
