Have heard said that favourable sports coverage can be cash influenced. The amount of AFL coverage in the Courier Mail (all NRL, all the time) has been alleged to be cash subsidised. All of the above is however completely in the realms of whispers and rumours. I'd ignore the post completely. Oh hang on, I wrote it.... Naaaah, still ignore it. Falc@hols.USA |

Someone must be reading these threads from the Herald Sun. Mind you, the 2 page article on JDR and the re-build has been floating around online for a couple days now. Except now it got printed and pictures added, which we didn't get to see online.
Take out the Chad Reed article, as that has been online as well for a couple days, and you get 3/4 of a page at the end of the day. |

It's interesting that whilst this discussion has been going on here, one of the companies mentioned in these articles, Jayco, is also a major sponsor of bike racing in Australia (as in bicycles). In fact they appear to have a blanket coverage of bike sports - the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, the Tour Down Under (not 100% on this one) and Mountain Bike National Series - three of the largest events'series in the country.
It starts to make you wonder how thinly sponsors will continue to spread themselves before they decide one form of sport has a better advertising push than another - sao if Jayco decide Melbourne Storm are beter will they give bikes the flick leaving all of their major events without title sponsors. Continues this thinking over to motorsport and, given the amounts required to even get a look into V8's - it could start to become worrisome that sponsors start to find they are overstretching themselves and either pull out of one sport or pull out altogether (and this has already been seen in F1). |

Why be picky?? Because the so called "Sport" section of the paper isn't Sport, but just all AFL or NRL, depend on what state your in. Time they started giving other sports some coverage. No wonder there has been an exodus of sponsors towards the two football codes.
