The Moffat Capri RS is now in NZ owned by Mike John, as mentioned by Camaroz. This is a '74 works car.

The Paul Fahey '73 works Capri is now owned by Roger Townshend, in Christchurch. This car came fitted when new with a pushrod motor, which Fahey won the 1974 0-4200cc NZ Saloon Car Championship with. For the '75 season, he fitted a quad-cam motor, the same as that fitted to Moffats car, and won the NZ Saloon Car Championship outright, beating all the V8s. Townshend has tracked down both engines. After Fahey sold it, it was later fitted with a small block Chevy. Townshend has just begun a major restoration job on the Fahey Capri, which will be reunited with the quad-cam.

The pushrod motor has been fitted to a '72 works RS Capri, which Townshend also owns. I think he found this car in Perth, with no motor.

The Sidchrome Mustang is owned by George Shewiery, who purchased it as a young guy from Jerry Clayton, when it first returned to NZ after JRs Falcon Hardtop SS was finally finished.

Both the PDL Mustang I, and PDL Mustang II are in the South Island. Steve Ross owns PDL I and had it restored about 5 years ago. PDL II is still owned by the Stewart family, who used to own PDL Electrical. It is brought out once or twice a year and raced at historic meetings. With no mufflers! Also has the huge tall rear aerofoil, as fitted for the Open Saloon Challenge races of 1979.

The Bruce Carey V8 Capri is also in Christchurch, still owned and raced by Evan Munt. Evan is the son of the late Ian Munt, who, when living in Sydney, purchased the Capri off Carey in the early '70s. It is still fitted with the Mawer wheels it had on it when Carey built it.

Ummm, what else. The Red Dawson Kensington Carpets '70 Camaro is now owned by Kelvin Towns in Dunedin. The Jimmy Stone built V8 McLaren powered Vauxhaull Victor of Jack Nazer is still owned by the guy who bought it from Nazer in the early '80s. Still has its Cossack livery from the 1978/79 seasons.

My good friend Tony Boyden owns the '67 Camaro which Rod Coppins won the 1970 NZ Saloon Car Championship with, and which John Osbourne won the 1980 OSCA championship with. The Brent Bullivant V8 Capri is now owned and raced by Jeff Barnes. Bullivant maintained Jim Richards' Falcon Hardtop SS. Richards drove the Bullivant Capri on a couple of occassions.

The Art McKee, King built Chevy Monza is now in Aus, and is being restored. Damn, what is the name of the guy who is restoring it? The Coppins '69 Firebird Trans-Am car is being restored. The Joe Chamberlain/Dennis Marwood '69 Trans-Am Camaro is nearly ready to race again after a big restoration. The Fahey '66 Trans-Am Mustang, Dexter Dunlop/Kevin Haig etc '67 Trans-Am Mustang, and Red Dawson '67 Trans-Am Mustang are all owned by David Bowden.

The Fahey works Escort FVA which won the '71 NZ Saloon Car Champs is in Christchurch.

The Graeme Addis V8 Charger, which had the engine in the back, and the driver adjustable rear wing, and ground effects, is still owned by Addis.

Thats just a few cars from the late '60s and '70s, from NZs history. I have heaps of photos, but for some reason the Ten-tenths posting rules won't allow me to post attachments.

There was a thread a while back about the two Gardner/Grice/Craven Mild/JPS BMW Turbo's, had a search but couldn't find it......

This is interesting. In the early 90's, whilst at a race meeting at Bira curcuit in Pattaya, Thailand a fellow competitor located a yard that contained several ex- driving school single seaters and a e21 320 space framed Gp5 looking car, with a rotary and a hewland transaxle. The car had been professionally built but was by then in a sad state. It was purchased and went to Hong Kong, then NZ. I heard it is being restored. The theory is it is the JPS car.
If as ASSA says, it went to the tip, then what is the car in NZ?
Also I was led to believe there were 3 Group 5 JPS 320's. One was the space frame car, and 2 more were conventional Group 5 cars, sourced from Jim Busby in the US. One went back to the US and the other one is in Sweden.
Have a look at the Group 5 320 thread in the historic section.

This Thailand car sure throws a spanners in the works! I am certain though that it was not the Richard Gartner car, which oddly enough had a Hewland and a rotary engine!!!
At this point in time (1990-1991) the car was badly damaged from a crash he had in private practice at Oran Park. This incident occured after he recently got the car going again after it went into a concrete wall heavily at a Sport Sedan support race at the Adelaide GP in 1990.
After the Oran Park crash the car never saw the track again and sat in a shed on the outskirts of Sydney rotting away. The Hewland was sold off and what was left of the chassis, body moulds and suspension was also parted out. The chassis which wasn't exactly first class or complete for that matter (front end was cactus after the crash) and it was sent to the tip.

I have no idea what car that is in NZ, would be interesting to know it's origins. There is also a genuine Group 5 320i turbo for sale over there too at the moment.

Not your sports sedan, but the car is safely in the hands of the Bowdens .. www.bowdensown.com.au I think.

Saw the legend at Calder, maybe last Easter with Bob Jane - proudly showing a UK mag with the Nova on opposite lock outside the Fahey Mustang, make that waaay outside.

The Fahey car is also in safe hands with the Bowden family.

Norm will be at Sandown I beleive as well as of course Richo, Frank Matich, Bob Jane and other lumanaries. They're having a special legends lunch. I'm hoping to grab a few of them for Podcast interviews.
The Bowden collection must be a ripper. David invited us up to have a good look araound for the show but sadly the budget doesn't cover it.
BTW for Melbourne viewers we have the Suzuka 300 Super GT race this week. Those cars are way cool, I just love the Lexus.

As I have posted before, the space frame car is now in NZ! Not sure where the "other one" came from.

What about the Ian Grey (Gray) 320 that ran in WA for a season or two? Was that a Grp 5 car?
