I've added more nostalgic classic FF - another Silverstone GP circuit race from April '89 won by De Ferran. Also Thruxton May '89, a race when Coyne had de Ferran off by the hangar on the last lap! Plus one of the heats from the '88 Festival.

the videos are great. What does stand out is how many people are watching...it just shows that having more motorsport on TV than ever with Sky could have a negative result on people being bothered to go and watch live motorsport at grass roots level?

I doubt it will, in these days motorsport was featured a lot on TV. Grandstand routinely showed the forumla ford chmapionship rounds for the two most popular championships in full (I think star of tomorrow and esso, Andrew will correct me). This was in addition to F3, BTCC, F3000, Formula One and some FF2000, all prime time on BBC channels.

Yeah, I think the problem is that people aren't exposed to motorsport on TV enough, so they never think about watching it for real. Shame. At least Dave is trying with the WRC programme, but that's hardly grassroots track racing.

Yes there are more movies added! Including FF on the Silverstone national circuit.
The BBC did show most of the F3 races on Grandstand and all of the BTCC. In addition there was the winter FF2000 series at Brands (The Grandstand trophy) and coverage of the Festival. They only showed one or two other FF events though, if their cameras were at the track for something else such as the F3000 International trophy. But nowhere near the amount of motor sport there is on TV today (Motors TV etc).
The biggest prob today is people have too much choice. The shops are open nearly 24/7, football on TV on Sundays, DVDs, pubs open all day, surfing the net (not like us eh?) and a million and one other things to do. Plus I think a lot of modern racing in recent years (F3 for example) has been very boring...they don't come back. 'Mr.Joe Public' casual viewer thinks the alternative to F1 is the BTCC. If they do go, it is there.

Thruxton 1988. I like the assembly area footage and around the paddock. I might have to try uploading this one again, for some reason the sound goes out of synch with the film during the race, OK on the tape & DVD, must be during upload!?

A general test at Silverstone in November '88. I was there with Trevor. Rick Morris was hired to drive to test TvR's latest 'Auriga' motor for Fulmar. F3000s made sure Rick checked his mirrors.

Silverstone national circuit, June '89. The blue SDC sponsored Van Diemen you see at the start of the clip is the car of Keith Huewen, motorcycle racer and TV commentator. SDC sponsored Keith's bike and SDC's David Wheeler persuaded him to have a go in cars. His next race on the GP circuit was his last in FF. After going off at Stowe, he planted himself firmly in the sleepers and realised cars weren't for him, when after the dust had cleared he noticed his foot was still firmly flat on the throttle!

A name you hear on those commentaries is Rick Morris. Started in FF in the very early '70s, 5 podiums in Festival finals..beat Senna, raced wheel to wheel with the best. Rick is 'Mr.Formula Ford'...and still at it!

Perhaps it was no.19 and the 9 fell off the sidepod. Maybe no.19 to remind himself how old he was if he ended up being inverted!

Andrew, I was competing in The BARC 74-78 FF 1600 race at that meeting, I don't suppose you filmed our race? I would have been driving the Tiga in those days.

I hope you Formula Fordsters have enjoyed looking at my old youtube clips. However, all of those movies are now available to view in much better quality as 'windows media player' versions. You may have to wait a few moments for them to download. The Snetterton footage in particular is a vast improvement.
