Did Spa keep its character, though? It kept a character but it's nothing like the old circuit. Both are/were great in their own way but apart from the Stavelot-Eau Rouge section, they are completely different circuits - the old circuit is largely flat-out, whilst the new circuit is very twisty with one corner after another

It didn't keep the same ethos of "long straights, fast corners", because a modern F1 track just can't simply do that for numerous reasons. But it's a fantastic modern day track, and a great example to other new tracks. It shows that even in the modern day and age, you can still have a good track that's capable of holding an F1 event. Please No How many more times do I have to say this?: Can you imagine what the F1 circus would do to Watkins Glen to sanitise it for F1's standards? They would wreck it beyond belief, some things are best left untainted by F1. |

correct - the new parts of the circuit could be anywhere. the bus stop chicane especially just isn't spa. they did need a new pit building and that, but it's not right any more. it feels like zolder - one half an example of modern soul destroying claptrap and half a sad reminder of how it used to be.

Zolder looks like a decent track, I just havn't watched a full race there, so can't really properly comment.
I agree that the Bus Stop needs some work. I quite enjoyed seeing the cars bouncing through the left-right/right-left chicanes at the end. Selby |

Great pics Alan Raine.
Thanks for refreshing the old memory. Maybe the term 'Tilke' may become a word adopted to mean castrated. There again 'Lotusonpole' may come to mean late. Cheers Peter |
