From www.visitbritain.co.uk
Since it's birth in 1926 as a local bicycle-racing venue, Brands Hatch (www.motorsportvision.co.uk/brands-hatch/) racetrack in Kent has become synonymous with the best of British motor racing. Many famous drivers from the past 50 years have raced and won at Brands Hatch, including Stirling Moss, Jim Clark and Jenson Button. The track now hosts the World Superbike Championship (www.worldsbk.com/home.php) every year, attracting racing fans from all over the world. From Wikipedia Originally used as a military training ground, the field belonging to Brands farm was first used as a circuit by a group of Gravesend cyclists led by Ron Argent,[1] with the permission of the farmer, Harry Write. Using the natural contours of the land, many cyclists from around London practiced, raced and ran time trials on the dirt roads carved out by farm machinery. The first actual race on the circuit was held in 1928, over 4 miles (6.4 km) between cyclists and cross-country runners. Within a few years, motorcyclists were using the circuit, laying out a three-quarter mile anti-clockwise track in the valley. Brands Hatch remained in operation during the 1930s, but after being used as a military vehicle park and being subject to many bombing raids during World War II, it needed some work for it to become a professional racing circuit. So really it could be said that MSV are just taking the circuit back to its roots.... |

What is your objection if you are not planning to be there? Regardless of whether I have a seaon pass or not, I don't give a **** about what takes place there when I'm not available. They can run the Womens World Naked Rollerblading Championships there and it wouldn't bother me..... ........actually, I would make time in my diary for that one.... |

I merely said I wondered why you felt compelled to mention it if you were not going to be there - does it really bother you what they run there when you are not attending? If so, why? (Before you ask yes I do understand that you are not required to answer, I'm just intrigued as to why it's got your panties in a bunch) |

Hubble....my first post states " This is one event i certainly wont be going to, especially as it coincides with the British GP "
At no point do I say I am doing anything else. I was implying that if an event such as WTCC, or a clubbie for that matter, was there that weekend, I would of tried to get along to spectate. As this is not the case, and the british GP is on that weekend, i will not be attending and watching that instead. So yes, I would rather there be a "decent" event as I would of gone. It also seems to me as if you are getting your "panties in a bunch"...at no point have I expressed any very angry etc posts, I have simply stated my views. This will be my last reply to you because frankly I am bored. I have stated my views and opinions and If you can not except them then fine, lets just leave it. Go and argue with someone who can be bothered. Last edited by brands hatch; 27 Jan 2010 at 20:33. |

Shock horror, Thruxton's getting in on the act too.
I've just seen on Cycling Weakly's twitter that Thruxton will be holding the traditional UK season opener the Perfs Pedal race on Feb 14th. |

I don't see the problem with this, if the circuit gets used, it lines JP's pockets and it helps keep costs down for the rest of us, what's the problem?

I've seen cycle racing at Silverstone. So what of it? More events whatever they are at circuits ensures that they stay open for business - and that means that there will always be a venue for our sport.
Really don't get what the issue with a cycling show at Brands is? |

Surely adding another user group is good business for the circuits and also is useful extra ammunition to use against 'Nimbys' who who want to close circuits.

Don't Combe do cycling races in the lunch break and whatever running and cycling races are called some evenings and things in the summer? I'm sure they do as think the old man won one of lunch break cycling races. Know Silverstone, Brands and Thruxton all hold half marathon / running events too. Really don't see the issue with motorsport venues holding non-motorsport events if they want to.

Wasn't Circuit Catalunya used for some of the cycling for the Barcelona Olympics?
EDIT : Google says yes - the team time trials. |

I ran the Silverstone half marathon a few yrs back, as a massive motorsport fan i loved every bit of the 13 odd miles.
I think its great for a "new" audience to experience Brands Hatch! |
