fair enough.
call me a cynic though but even if the teams got all the money i dont think ticket prices are going to go down nor do i think they will allow for a reduction in their TV revenue. in his defense, BE offered some of the more traditional or important venues better commercial deals (Montreal for example). but guess what ticket prices didnt go down...they went up. although if Ferrari got more money im sure they would make it more affordable for me to buy one of their cars. that would be a fair trade off |

Surely whoever is behind the Mumbai circuit wold wait to see how the current track gets on before going for a second F1 graded track, maybe to build a track that can easily be upgraded would be a better plan?

my guess is that this "mumbai" story is simply political posturing to try to take some of the limelight away from the buddh circuit in what is the eve of their day in the sun. As for races in places like korea, bernie and cvc dont really care about the audience, as long as the circuit funders (be it private or government) pay the bill for the length of the contract he isnt bothered, there will always be another emerging market queueing up with a big cart of shiney coins to host the next race. european countries are not going to pay up that amount of money so bernie et al head to where the desire is strongest. |

Nothing surprising about any of that. Most people in India probably don't have a clue that it's taking place at all.

i would have thought 80,000 is a lot of people for an inaugural race and a number that puts it up there in live attendance...unless of course its 80K over the 3 days.
a Saward blog post from a few days ago referenced some tv numbers. "The broadcast rights for India belong to Star Sports, which broadcasts F1 in Asia, and the channel recently managed to get 26 million Indian viewers for an F1 race." regardless of the size of the country, 26mil suggests to me that enough people in the country know its going on. |

incidentally today is Diwali which is one of the largest and most important (for several of India's religions) festivals of the year.
it would be akin to scheduling a race here a few days after Christmas...although they do that for all the sports here so perhaps the event should be better supported because of the holiday. |

In India, over 5,000 children, under the age of 5, die every day. Primarily through starvation. So, perhaps a few farmers complaining about loss of land isn't quite the non-story that some think it is. One can only hope that the local economy does rather better out of this venture than some others have. A venture that seems to be relying upon the 'middle class' of India to be bothered at all about F1.
Other news: Russia spend $200 million on F1 circuit. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95683 No problem for them. It just means that my gas bill will go up. Last edited by Marbot; 26 Oct 2011 at 18:26. |

It does make one wonder why the idea of a S. Korean GP was entertained in the first place? |
