Uh, this is just a prototype. The bodywork is going to change even from the official launch of the car.

Twin exhaust have been biased right side.
This is because it is a left-hand drive. It seems that the safty survival cell monocoque of the DTM style is adopted (not current GT500 style monocoque) in Next-Gen DTM/SGT car. According to Japanese AUTOSPORT, ITR valued the safety of the driver about the regulation unification problem. |

Not good, the more I see of it, the less I like it.
And it looks really big, doesn't it? |

Have to agree, looks really agressive. However, I'm not a fan of the rear wing... I like high wings, but that swan neck and how far behind that car it is just look out of place, move the wing 20cm forward and ban swan neck and it would be spot on.

The presentation of the new car is today, it will be on display in the BMW Welt starting tomorrow.
The emphasis on safety for the new car is definetely a wise decision, the new-era DTM has seen some nasty crashes already like the Kristensen & Premat shunts. |

The wheel arches look weird and the rear wing is ugly as hell.
Comparing the BMW GT2 car and this BMW DTM car is like beauty and the beast. Conclusion: Still way to much aero. |

A little bit of 20 years old Trans-Am.

20 years ago, Trans-Am cars didn't have wings, and that was all for the better...

But they did have huge spoilers a-la NASCAR and rather strange dimensions.

Yeah, but I kinda like that, and of course it made for spectacular looks without going overboard with the aero-stuff.

Agreed. Hadn't spotted them in the spy shot but still too many little winglets. Side-on it looks like a BMW roof grafted over the top of a current Mercedes body.

Not more winglets than any GT3 car has.

i'm not too keen, but it certainly looks aggressive. I'll wait til I see them racing to pass opinion I think. One thing that's annoying me is the headlights, does it have them or not? I know it's a small thing but it really looks stupid with them blacked out.

Yes the DTM cars have headlights... keep in mind this is only a concept car, not the final design.

Looks less like a touring car than current cars, the BMW doesn't even resemble a 3-series.

I'm positively surprised. The rear winglet really seem to be gone for good. The cars will finally get a real rear wing (the current twin-tier wing sucked in my opinion), yet the car looks spectacular. Like a mish-mash between GT2 and DTM 2000-03. Hopefully the racing on the track will start to improve.
And I like Priaulx and Farfus as drivers. Hopefully they'll show the DTM drivers what real touring car drivers are about. |
