Once again in a very, very sad way I get to put my life into real perspective.

Bill and I send our thoughts to family and friends and hope they get the support they need.

Should there be any "book of condolence" (on-line or otherwise), we would like to contribute.

It is very sad news, There are no words that can make any of this any better and I can't imagine what good can come from this horrible event but I hope, as is often the case with tragedies, that some good will come out of it and that in the long run many lives will be saved.
I will be at the British Grand Prix and I will be proud to take part in any memorial that can be arranged, Hopefully there is an official amongst us in a position to organise something, A minutes' silence trackside would be the most appropriate and hopefully those who are not attending can join us at the various circuits and venues around the world at that time, and maybe raise a glass sometime over the weekend too.

It's already underway, folks. Several of the folks "upstairs" have been contracted already after a similar suggestion on the FB Motorsport Marshals group.

A very sad day, all thoughts go out to his family, I think a mark of respect at the BGP would be a really good idea, lets hope there can be something sorted. All marshals stand together

Well said. A horrible way to end a GP. I can't wait to get home.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by the incident. I've been out there twice and know what a great bunch of people everyone are.

An orange-coloured maple-leaf flag/armband/something, would say how we feel at Silverstone. No idea how to do it at such short notice, though.

Terrible news and a salient reminder to all of us marshals, it is a dangerous place to be,
So sad and so unnecessary, but most of us would probably have done the same with even thinking about it.
RIP my friend. Wave the flag for us all up there
Condolences to the family and friends, and for the crane driver.

It's amazing how, even though I've never even been to North America, I find myself deeply saddened by this tragic news. My sincere condolences to all involved.

I'm certain that those who are going will do something good by way of a tribute at the BGP. I hope it makes it to TV.

Word of warning, they are watching. Although we are all very supportive and only mean good, the press as we know can take quotes and use them as they feel fit (if you know what I mean).
"Silverstone marshals have planned to pay tributes to Robinson when the F1 fraternity reconvenes at Silverstone later this month."

That's almost all been lifted from crash.net, who published it last night (I think).

But yes, you're right. Any comment made in a public forum like this is fair game for the journalists (and churnalists).

Well Luke the press got it wrong!! It's not Silverstone marshals. It' the marshalling family that wants to show a mark of respect at the British GP.
Rant over, and I will be there.

For most journalists that's a level of distinction they'd be completely unaware of. Read it as "the marshals who will be at Silverstone" and it sounds better.

You and I know that but as Paul says below, the press will have little knowledge about different clubs etc. but we know ourselves that its the WHOLE marshalling community that are backing it.

Nina and I have been profoundly saddened by the death of the Canadian Marshal. No matter how it happened, the rights or wrongs, or what happens next, a man has died, and left loved ones. Nina and I can not imagine the consequences for his family, and our hearts go out to them with empathy and sympathy.

Folks, out of respect for both those who wish to discuss the incident and those who wish to express their condolences - and more importantly, anyone closely related to this incident who may read the forum, this thread has now been split into two.

On my own behalf, I was horrified to hear this not long after watching what had been a pretty good GP, full of happy people, turn into such a horrible tragedy.
My heart goes out to Mark's family and friends and to our marshalling family in Canada.

As I know from my own experiences (ill health) over the last few years, we are a huge family who support each other no matter which part of the world we live in. I have taken great comfort from folk I've never met, as well as from friends who I do know.

It is at times like this that this Forum is at its best.

What a truly awful occurrance. At the end of a big meeting we all want to go home and share with our friends, and to think he won't be able because of such a random incident. I can't imagine how his friends and family, and in particular, the driver involved must feel. Deepest condolences to all.

At The British GT meeting at Snetterton yesterday there was a minutes silence held just before the start of the afternoons racing. The commentator explained what had happened to our Canadian comrade and also explained that all marshals are volunteers. The minutes silence was beautifully observed.

At the MGCC at Silverstone we had a minutes silence at 11:00 during the Church Break. We all went to stand trackside, I was in the pits and we were joined out there by the Race Control team and a number of the drivers and teams from the garages. As mentioned above it was impeccably observed - a big thank you to the non-marshals who joined us.

Motorsports Marshalling Services (MMS), joined by other track vounteers observed a minute silence on Sunday at the VARAC Canadian Historic Grand Prix at CTMP (Mosport). We chose Sunday as it marked 1 week since the accident. Those of our members who were at the Canadian GP last weekend send their thanks for the support of the international marshalling community.
