The idea would be not to go to a worse team particularly one in a parlous financial situation from which the owners are attempting to bail.If no spot in Merc or Ferrari because lead drivers want a clear number 2 then Red Bull is his best bet.

I think the most likely option now is a one year (preferable) or two year (at most) contract with Red Bull.

Two year best for him as not much will change until for 2021.

Everyone was expecting the driver market for 2019 to be one of the biggest silly seasons ever, with so many drivers out of contract at the end of 2018. It all was on what Ricciardo, Bottas and Raikkonen were going to do for next year. Well, it looks like the expected driver reshuffle will not happen. Bottas is staying at Mercedes. Ricciardo is staying at Red Bull for 2019 and 2020. Raikkonen will make way for Leclerc at Ferrari.
That's what the rumour mill is from Austria anyway. An announcement on Ricciardo staying at Red Bull is expected in the next few days, apparently. |

Everything Ive seen on multiple sites reflects a lot of his posting, with the goofy exception of McLaren being linked to DR and KR. I think that's a lot of well McLaren has hinted at making moves, putting 2 and 2 together and getting 42, sorry but that is definitely NOT the question that was asked.
It seems like the general consensus in F1 reporting is DR re-signing at Red Bull, Bottas likely being retained at MB, and LeClerc being brought in to Ferrari. Where Kimi ends up and the McLaren insanity seems to be a spread, with everything from Kimi to McLaren, with either Norris/Vandoorne or and Alonso to Indy, Vandoorne and Norris together and weirdly Vandoorne and Magnussen. The last one makes no sense to me as why would he leave Haas? |

When was the last time a driver with just one season in F1 drove for Ferrari?
Apparently, Leclerc has had on offer for a two year deal with Ferrari (2019-2020). There is some silly talk of Leclerc replacing Raikkonen sometime after the summer break (Spa or Monza), but unlikely to happen I think. Could he?? Ricciardo is not 100% happy with Red Bulls offer apparently, and will take a bit longer to finalise. There was talk of an announcement on Sunday at Red Bulls home race, but that may not happen now. |

Jean Alesi only had one full season in F1 before he went to Ferrari, plus half a season before that

The honeyedbadger is looking very much a number two at Redbull, maybe he will have to take a paycut on his new contract or go off and dip his paws into the world of orange

He certainly wasn't a happy bunny today, let alone a happy honeybadger. If they were to give him a pay cut, he would walk. Compared to Verstappen, he finished ahead of him last season in 5th and so far this season, he's won Monaco and is currently third in the drivers title.

Verstappen is the 3rd highest paid driver on the grid. Very much unjustified.
Why should Daniel accept anything other than, at the very minimum, equal pay? Daniel at least deserves it. |

Seems Red Bull will keep him, looks like both Merc and Ferrari seats are settled for 2019

The only reason Max gets more was the timing of him extending / renegotiating his contract last year. (When Max's stock was probably at its height) Prior to that Danny was the one with the better contract. Danny's new contract, should it be with Red Bull, will be at least on par with Max.

Max got his contract when Red Bull were wanting to ensure he stayed. Ricciardo is not in a position where Red Bull fear him going elsewhere - so needs to do more if he wants a bigger payout... |

In the last few weeks Dan has found out
1There is no drive for him at Mercedes or Ferrari 2The most competitive drive on offer is at Red Bull where he will be paid about 25% of what his team mate will be getting. 3By going rogue during qualifying on Saturday he has at least in the short term lost a lot of good will from Christian Horner. The interview with him in the pen after the race where he said he wished he had never become a racing driver and that he should find another sport sounded like it was coming from a man who has seen his dream disappear. |

How do we know he'll only be on about 25% of what Max is getting? Has this been divulged?

Up to last year when Max renewed his contract (when he was on a crest on terms of stock value) he was given a sizeable increase (to 10 Million). Prior to that Danny, on an old contract (set a 5 million per year) was earning substantially more than Max. Now Danny is up for renewal he will be up for an increase to the level of Max.... admittedly Danny has fewer options in terms of top teams but an offer from McLaren of a large sum will be handy in ensuring Red Bull are generous in their offer for keeping Danny, their preferred available driver, and who has won more races than Max this year and has more points.... he also scored a lot more points than Max last year. I daresay the fact of the dubious engine potential may cost RB/Honda a bit extra to compensate and keep Danny there. 25% of what Max is now earning is ridiculous... DR is not going to sign or be offered half of his current annual retainer is he? |
