Wow, what a session. Both Russell and Verstappen end up on 70 (?) seconds dead. For the first time since Jerez 97, we have a dead heat for pole. It’s great for George and great for F1. After last year’s Max/RBR walkover, it’s nice it’s more open this year.

Good to see Danny Ric up there, but shocker for Ferrari. Big contrast to Monaco. And Checo once again fails to make it out of Q1. He really needs to find his consistency again

I'm not cancelling JV's judgement, I'm just saying he may have to eat his words. So let's see how Danny Ric does in the race. For his own sake I hope it doesn't all fizzle out, like it did at Miami and he gets a good result.

JV was absolutely correct about one thing - if it wasn't for Dannys personality, he wouldn't be in F1 anymore. Danny is right to capitlise on this to get out of his slump of course. But if he had the personality of Ericson (who is a lovely guy, but not exciting) then he wouldn't still be in F1, or got a second chance at Red Bull.

But me thinks from all your posts and comments you have a similar and constant opinion as JV

Yup. I don't remember the last time we had a driver with such a gap between potential/hype and results.

Hopefully the weather improves for the race because right now (4 hours from the start) the weather is awful, standing water, puddles everywhere. Heavy rain.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember that Tsunoda was all over the place in early 2023 before Danny arrived back. Perhaps DR's input has helped the team improve the car which Yuki was unable to do.

10 laps in, the wets are now 4 seconds a lap slower.

Everyone else played the long game and got it right.

Too far down the track and couldn't pit with the call, looked like he was just passed the line and then SC slowed him just enough too. Just the usual sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield.

Penalty on Danny seemed aggressive, didn't move on the in car

Looks like Ferrari being ballsy but a reset in pit lane will send him to the back and on hard.

How have the dry tires aged? Hard seemed aggressive on a fairly cold track and rain for Leclerc.

Haas overthought it in the SC, they must have pitted again to be at the rear from 11. Improved to the points and then nope, had a chance there to bring in your points but no. You went against engineering without looking out, stay with that. Working well for Yuki and they were right there

Well Ferrari decided to end the gamble quickly. When is the next band coming, NOAA cross border radar looks like another shower but not heavy coming

Alpine going slick first. Red Bull and Ferrari could play with their second place runners, Mercedes a little more challenging with both in points

Norris getting any penalty there would be a joke, no advantage gained and actually lost out

Pit lane delta of 19 seconds seems to be only for dry, that was closer to 25 seconds based on the gap before and after, pit out still damp

And Russell carving time off of Max's lead on back half of track, well that won't help sir

Mercedes pit to swap the cars to the other tires?? Lewis to hards and George to mediums seems odd

Oofta, McLarens are not firing up well are they but looks like it's coming back to them with 8 to go out might not be enough

Definitely a racing incident there, Georgie was trying but didn't give room when he wasn't clear and Oscar stayed on track. Hopefully no pop up investigation notice
