Davidson's performance is exceptional - If he out-qualifies Webber tomorrow - then that would be absolutely brillant.
I think Williams are looking good - they always work on race set up on Friday and run with heavy fuel loads - Mclaren traditionally run far lighter on Fridays so I wouldnt read much into their times. I think qualifying will once again be a fight b/w Ferrari and Williams BMW. |

Spa is usually a great track for McLaren so I wouldn't be too sure... I'm also impressed by the Jags, but what went wrong at Sauber?!

Mania, the Williams of Ralf looks good , but Montoya looked lousy i thought . He went off god knows how many times....he ended up 0.5 or something off Ralf which could be worse i suppose , but he didnt look a happy chappie .

Yup - Juan did look like he was having trouble - but even Ralf was all over the place in the 2nd sector and losing a lot of time. That said, you gotta back BMW on a power circuit when it comes to crunch time - unless they make the mistake that they did last year and knock back their revs big time.

thats true....Juan just looked like he had a terrible balance , i dont think only running 3 laps in the first session helped much . And im sure hes not happy that he's behind Ralf....He will be on a misson tomorrow ...good stuff..im looking forward to it already .

Well Ralf blew him away at hockenheim, a medium speed circuit(now), he followed up his dominance at Hungary (slow circuit), and now he looks as if hes going to beat Juan at a fast circuit. It appears that Ralf has JPM covered all over at the moment. Things could change by tomorrow though.
P.S Kimi was impressive, but dont beleive the BMW times. Tomorrow they will lift the revs and will fly around Spa. Ive put $20 on Ralf taking pole tomorrow. P.S Juan, I havent fallen for all the hype that surrounds you, but I was convinced you were better than Ralf. Im beginning to doubt that now. |

On his second year and they have same amount of points (and only 4 more to come), no doubt he is better than his teammate, wait until he has 5 seasons on the business... |

... but even better, i'd say, is kimi raikkonen.
maybe magny-cours was meant to be and in fact it will be spa where he takes his first win? i hope so, for one of such a precocious talent surely deserves to be able to say 'my first win came at spa' rather than at the pathetic magny-cours. just as it did for some chinny german fellow in 1992 ... please, dear God, i pray, nay, beg of you - let this be the weekend where for some reason unknown to man, the ferraris eat their bridgestones. just for once, please ... |

Two typical friday sessions... nothing much exciting. Kimi did an excellent job today and proved that he will muscle his Mclaren for a good grid postion tommorow.
Rubenho did well to dominate TGF throughout the two sessions and though he stands in second place after the second session (due to a few quick laps from TGF in light fuel), he seems to be in great shape for the pole tommorow... Ralf is working very hard and seems determined to take to JPM on this track. I hope he doesnt overdrive tommorow. AD was a second quicker than Webber... |

Yeah, brilliant to see the Macs up there, and it's true that Williams are focusing on race setup on Fridays, so I wouldn't read too much into their times. Perhaps, perhaps, we will see a three way battle between McLaren, Ferrari and Williams for the win on Sunday.
Optimist is my middle name. But a win for Kimi or Juan would be great. In fact, it would be great if anyone who is not a German in a Ferrari won this race. Here's hoping! Last edited by R; 30 Aug 2002 at 16:33. |

As much as I hope Schumi wins, I would be equally happy if Kimi take his first GP there!

That's to take nothing away from AD, however. See how more exciting F1 becomes when proper talent is put in the cars ... F1 should be exclusively for drivers who are actually worthy of a place on the grid. Should be. |

here's to 'hope', R,
have a good one.. Johnny, Yes you are right... Though Webber looks to be in slight pressure. The media is too much after him and there is news of him joining virtually every team on the grid except the three top ones. It doesnt really bodes well for his duel with AD. Lets see how it goes tommorow. I think if he gets it right, he will be able to outqualify AD just like he did at Hugnoraring. |

Going back to the fog stopping the 1st practice session, this happened last year too on saturday mornings sessions, truncating those sessions. As this seems to be a regular event at this forest surrounded circuit maybe they could consider moving the planned start time of the friday sessions to a later time e.g. 12 and 2 not 11 and 1.

This is a Michelin day. Imagine That Ferrari are 3rd and 4th and the next fastest is a Honda in 13th. This is all tires. A shame but that is the way it is sometimes with a tire war. Hopefully in quali. there is more eqality.

European weather forcast shows rain for Saturday midday and showers on Sunday, which would suit Bridgestone, especially their exceptional intermediate tyre or tire!

Thats right Mac, Marc had lost first gear (needed for La Source hairpin) and then the gearbox packed up completely and he had to park it. Hope they both get a fair crack at it tomorrow! Qualifying is quite an art, to hook up three best sectors!!! that takes some doing and experience.
Sato San; Ant confirmed to me by SMS that he lost the TC in the first session (did you see him just miss the barriers on the exit of La Scource?) He also said they can't take Eau Rouge flat (like he used to in F3 cos they cant run too much wing, cos they would loose out too much on the staights! So it was as he described it to Peter Windsor "A bit twitchy" adding "it makes you feel you got away with something!" |
