What's the point in having 40 drivers compete in a series that is supposed to deliver 1-2 new drivers for next year's F1 season? I think the number of cars should be relatively close to the number of cars in F1. So for this year, anything between 16 and 30 would do. In that case, it makes sense to have a couple of F3 series with 30-40 drivers each, as F3 also delivers drivers to major series in North America, Japan, etc. |

I was searching over the internet for some information about Italian F3 (I know, something different), but I found this:
Catamaran Swiss Watches and Cyril Lanz are once again joining forces for the season 2003 in formula 3000. The chosen F3000-Team "Ghinzani" is a team for champions. The team owner, Piercarlo Ghinzani, won the Italian F3 title and he was engaged in 80 Grand Prix in Formula 1 with Osella, Benetton, Ligier and Zakspeed. The team manager, Dr. Ravetto, is also Marketing-Director for the Formula 1 Team Minardi. In the year 2000 the team achieved first-rate placing and in 2001 the team driver Thomas Biagi became vice-champion. It is a leading team due to its strong organisational base, top class infrastructure and co-ordination coupled with financial independence resulting in autonomy and high performance in the world of motor racing. Talented drivers and competent, committed engineers and mechanics with experience in Formula 1 are for success in high-level motor racing. The Swiss racing driver Cyrill Lanz is maximum talented. After visiting the world's famous racing school Henry Morrogh in Italy he won his first race after only one year in the Italian Formula Ford Championship and succeeded with many podium places. After some races in the Italian F3 Championship in 2001 he gets for the season 2003 one of the demanded driver places with Team Ghinzani in the F3000 European Championship. A large and highly professional test program on simulator and on the track will prepare him on a optimum for the season in 2003 to get in the top ten in the championship. For 2004 podium places are the goal and the first test in Formula 1 with Minardi is planned. http://www.catamaran.ch/e/press/ |
