Merci Fab,
An "Og" is not a real word at all. Ayse and I are both from Hampshire and their is an animal known as the Hampshire Hog. Locals have bad accents though so very often don't pronounce H's at the begiining of words. The reason I use jpchenet as a nickname is that by the end of Le Mans weekend, I have normally consumed so much of it that I probably look like a bottle (including the bent neck) Hence our groups nickname, "The Winebenders" www.winebenders.co.uk Cordialment Mark |

Not quite your class of wine, Fab. Comes in a bottle with a bent neck. Have a look in your local supermarket! |

Stockmarket tip!!!
Invest in the people who make JP Chenet. Their profit margins will rise steeply just from the amount we will will drink over the weekend. Chateauneuf/Margaux/Puilly Fuse/Chassagne Montrachet sales will also increase drastically on our return journey. |

For the Margaux, my favourite is the Leoville Las Cases (some 92 still to drink at home)... Puilly Fuse means certainly Pouilly Fuissé (don't make confusions with Pouilly Fumé), a pleasant dry white one... Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Batard Montrachet are definitely some of the best white wines in France (Bourgogne/Côte de Beaune), just beated by the Corton Charlemagne, that I just can push you to try one day, if I dare a piece of advise... Huh... Last edited by Fab; 20 May 2003 at 05:21. |

Absolutely no doubts here and thanks for the tips Fab. Yes I did mean Chateauneuf du Pape and I apologise for the incorrect spelling of Pouilly Fuissé.
Are you aware of anywhere in le Mans that I vcan obtain some of your suggestions. I always like to buy a few cases to bring home as it is SO much cheaper than over here. A good friend of mine bought me a bottle of Ch. Léoville Las Cases for my birthday and he also told me about another wine Ch. Potensac, a Médoc that the DELON family are also involved with. |

My motto in that matter is : "buy to the vintner". Le Mans is inbeded in the Loire area, which has wonderful and interresting wines we both didn't mentionned above... No way to buy in pricey and good conditions of keeping some Chateauneuf du Pape, Leoville Las Cases, Pouilly Fuissé or any of the white wonderful Bourgognes... just focus on : Jasnières, Anjou (including more precise appelations, as Coteau du Layon, Coteau de l'Aubance, Bonnezeau, Savennière, or even Saumur, etc...), or Touraine (Chinon, Bourgueil, Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, etc...). Huh... not sure Ayse will appreciate those comments absoloutely out of the thread/forum object... Would you prefer to have a talk by PM ? Last edited by Fab; 20 May 2003 at 15:44. |

I must admit Fab, I was beginning to wonder what French wines had to do with grandstands, but, on the understanding that it would be very nice indeed to consume a glass or two of vin when sitting in the grandstand, I guess we are (just) on topic still........

well, some above spoke of the "miam miam", but it seems it's now more about "glou glou"

I'm dreading the moment when Bluebottle and Hurricane read this thread. My car has never been the same since the load it carried back from the last Le Mans trip.

There's wines all along the Loire river, but there's very different places. Here are, from the start (Auvergne) to the sea, those peculiar places : some Auvergne wines (dodge this), Sancerre (including Pouilly and Menetou-Salon), Vins de l'Orléannais (Gris Meunier, essentialy, not very interresting), Jasnières and Coteau du Loir/du Vendomois (small appellation, which concern us very much at LM), Touraine (Touraine-Mesland - my hometown ! -, Cheverny, Vouvray, Chinon, Bourgueil, etc...), Anjou (mentionned above) and Muscadet (hope I forgot nobody !). Reds : Sancerre and Menetou-Salon give nice red wines, Cheverny, Touraine-Mesland too, and, close from LM, Chinon, Bourgueil and Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil. Anjou gives interresting red wines, especially if they've grown up in your cellar some years. Follow Mrs FG (Ms Jones !) piece of advice, and try the Talueau wines, in Bourgueil... one hour from the track, and nice drive in the Maine County/country... I hate to buy wines in the supermarket ; if you can't dodge it, ask the wine keeper in the supermarket, don't take too young wines, and don't choose too cheap ones... You can buy "bag in box" wines (practical for feasts on the circuit - oh Gosh, am I pushing you the wrong way ), not too expensive, but ask to taste it before (could be awful)... Light reds : Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil Heavy reds : Chinon Surprises, sometimes good, sometimes awful : Saumur-Champigny Try : Sancerre ! And try the local Jasnières (white), which is very nice... Huh................. some news about the new grandstands ? Who took a place ? |

SL won't mind me reminding him of the time he brought some cheap, no very cheap wine, in fact it was so cheap it had bits floating around in it. To no ones great suprise it turned out to be cider and rather vile.
We now spend a little more and would be keen to sample some good labels if you have any suggestions? |

I once bought a bottle of wine in a French supermarket which said on the label "Produce of more than One Country".
