Look... there is no perfect way to solve this problem.
The new rules are deemed discouraging to racing wheel to wheel. The old rule of penalties given by rotational stewards are deemed inconsistent. If we have a standard set of steward at every race, some point or another, people would criticise the stewards for being biased and a team recieve help over a season... |

Applying the penalties immediately for technical infringements, but using data after the race for dangerous or unfair overtaking practices, might be teh best move. I hope it means race resutls won't be changed with hindsight, but how about an automatic 10-place penalty on the next race grid for causing an avoidable accident? Or maybe 5 places if the affected driver continues? The only problem with this is that it will discourage drivers from making risky moves - such as Ralf at Hockenheim. As an aside, are teams still allowed to replace a driver who has a penalty hanging over him?

As it is reviewed after a race the same group of officials can be used to review each incident, keeping consistency throughout the season, which was a problem before.
But as Wrex said it has the problem of results belong changed after the event, and may devalue celebrations if an incident is being investigated. |
