Early to mid seventies watching the Touring Cars at Amaroo Park, then Oran when I could figure out how to get there under my own steam.

The first race I can actually remember seeing on TV was Bathurst '77.

I never went as a spectator until I was old enough to go alone, my parents weren't interested in taking me and no amount of pleading would change their minds. It was Lakeside ATCC '85 and i went spent the preceding weeks stuffing letterboxes with junkmail so I could go.

I remember going to Lakeside and was not far away from the Glynn Scott fatal accident and also when the Chris Bauer Mustang hit the Armco. I can't remember the year of that but i think it was either 69 or 70.

The last Wellington Street race did it for me. It was, sadly, also my first, and at the time we had no idea that it would be the last.

Watching Murphy win 3 from 3 at the 1st Pukekohe Supercar round, and clean-up the 2nd and 3rd rounds too.

Seeing Ashley Stichbury in a Tranzam for the last time that he raced at Pukekohe would be very, very vivid and special too.

There is just to many to list really...!

I just remembered my uncle took me to Liverpool Speedway on a Saturday night in the late '70s, but I was too young to remember much of it.

I was about to say that was my first "live" motor racing experience, when dad took the family there around then.

First circuit - Amaroo 1989(not sure exact date).

When I was about 12 or 13 (too long ago to remember) the secretary from my dear old dads work took me to Calder. Beechey in the Neptune Chev Nova, McKeown in the Porsche and Peter Manton in the Mini are about all I can recall. Man that Nova was awesome.

I seem to recall looking at the wrecked 05 sitting in the pits at Lakeside in 1987, but I can't seem to recall too much else. I remember the 1988 Lakeside ATCC and I'll never forget Lakeside 89. We used to go to the Ekka speedway back then, and I remember ring in Wally Lewis flipping a sprint car in the first turn. Catch fencing was pretty dodgy, and people were advised not to locate themselves on Machinery Hill It's good that the revive the ekka speedway once a year, that's always a hoot..

Here's a pic of the start of the 88 race as taken by my Aunty. IIRC Johnson got done for a jump start, with Longhurst getting up for the win.

Definitely Richo; Jim had the black grille, Brocky had the white one and Crompton had the red one from Amaroo onwards.

My earliest memories of a full race meeting would be Calder Park 1987...Brockie in the VL, Johnson having 'engine trouble' in the Sierra...and a young Glen Seton in the PJR Sierra...

But I do have a fuzzy memory of the Marlboro VK going around the last corner at Calder Park (85?)...

As for motorsport in general, I remember the three MHDT VB Commodores at the Melbourne Showgrounds? after winning the Repco Trial (1980?)...

Cheers

Not the first but certinately the most memorable -
Hanging out of a tree on skyline 1981 hearing & then seeing the Tru Blu falcon booming across the top leading a sixty car field

TCR-028 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Was just doing a search and came across this gem of a thread...

For what it's worth my first memories are -

* The Falcon 1-2 at Bathurst. As a Holden kid, i was devastated.
* Brocky blitzing them in the A9X - i vowed to have one of them one day, still haven't got around to it...
* Moffat in the RX-7 - Wanted one of them too, i actually succeeded though and now run one in Improved Production...

Speedway wise, i remember Tomago raceway in about 1977 as a kid, and Liverpool speedway in the mid 80's - we raced our paddock bashers there in the late 80's as teenagers after it closed down and before the new "Valley Plaza" shopping centre was built there...

My first true meeting i attended was at Oran Park in the late 80's ('89 maybe ??) - Brocky was in a BMW, i still have the photo of him and myself standing beside the Mobil BMW...

P.S. Hope i won't get shot for bumping up an old thread !!

First Race Remembered on TV - 1992 Bathurst 1000 (as an 8 year old)

First Race Attended - Apparentally went to an ATCC Round at Sandown as a 1 year old in a pusher (maybe 1985)

other then that... there was the historics race at Albert Park in 1994 or 1995. It was the last race ran on the old circuit. The track was lined with water filled plastic barriers. There was super tourers there as well, i remember seeing Longhursts Benson and Hedges BMW being raced around..

I went to the Aus GP in 1996.

and ive been to a couple of Sandown and a couple of Phillip Island historics since.

First race attended - the first open meeting at Oran Park - I was three weeks old. I don't remember much of it

Early memory from a few years later was some poor bloke rolling an FJ quite violently down the Dogleg.

Then - oh, must have been 67 or so - Pete Geoghegan blitzing the field on the short track at Warwick Farm in the Castrol Mustang.

Dad being team manager of the works VW at Bathurst 1969, then rushing home to finish his Formula Vee so he could go racing in 1970 (he'd raced touring cars from 1962 to 66).

Geez I feel old

Watching Bill Warner giving his competitors 1 lap head start at Westmead Speedway (now Weastmead Hospital), and then catch them and kick their bottoms. Maybe late 60's.
