I think a lot of the petty rows that evolve from these type of forums come about because of some peoples anominity.
personally it does`nt bother me about using real names, those who know me know my real name, but for those who don`t I`m Mr Tony William Glover, aka sx200s14a, aka Pit Bull, aka muttley aka other things besides.

I'm not particularly bothered either way... you can always ask for their name! I think having psuedo names is quite exciting.... because you don't know who people are sometimes means they give an honest anfd frank opnion. Maybe those people would be a little more hesitant to do so normally if they are a little shy perhaps?

like short-arse? ;p

Sorry Tony, couldn't resist!

i use a psuedo name for the simple reason that i have that many bloody log ons for different things at home and work that i need to keep them all the same where possible. I used Hepatic when at uni 'cos it happened to feature in a song i was listening to at the time of creating a user ID, and all the other ones i tried before were already taken. It just made sense to keep it for all the other things i've got IDs for...

I've never posted anything that i wouldn't say to someone face to face, but thats just the way i am. If i think you're a short-arse, then i'll tell ya so!!!!!!!!

all in the name of a cheap laugh...

Steve

I chose my screen name when I was a bit worse for ware and I just asumed that you had to have one as this is the only forum that I go on and I did not know any better. If there was a way of changing it then I would use my proper name.

I used Lone Rider as it's the username I always use on forums.

My real name is Andy Wilson, I am a IO/Flag Marshal and a Fire Tender Crew member at Oulton Park. I have also been known to visit Pembray and Castle Coombe.

I simply used what my wife calls me when she wants something. Amd because I couldn't be bothered to type it all, and nobody can spell it anyway. Then I found they can't spell Woolley either!

Well you can post a picture in your profile (I have a picture of one of my cars so I cant talk) but other sites I go on (more trade related) hava a facility where your picture appears along side your post which I think is a better way of doing it. Maybe admin should concider introducing this facility as I am sure it is available on the software this board uses as it looks very familiar.

I like other's have said create my username as just that a short user name that I use for all forums and ID's to keep things easy to remember. I was not aware when I created it that I couldn't change it or indeed that there was not another field where I could enter my full name.
But Doug is my first name and my surname begins with K!

I think this proves the point of this thread...
have just rec'd an email from an old mate (well, not so old, he's younger than me) from my Brands Hatch days, who I haven't seen or heard from since moving up north, but he obviously recognised the description I posted earlier. I'll reply to him soon, but this will make me seriously consider changing my log-in from what I thought was a marginally-anonymous nom-de-keyboard to one that's more obvious. There may be other marshalling friends from the last fifteen-odd years who might be more inclined to get in touch if, instead of wondering who 'paddock.one' is, they realised it was me -
Martin Borland
Examining Specialist
Chief/Dep Chief Paddock/Assembly, Oulton Park, plus a few other gigs when required or if I can blag an invite to shadow the Clerks...

Stephen G - yep, it's me! Haven't managed my promised visit back to Brands this year after all, but if the nine teams get their way despite F*****i I hope to see you at Silverstone next July...

That sums it up Martin in one post and is why on a friendly none controversial site like this I feel aliases are not relevant. As i said before an anomonous bid one ebay is one thing but what is the worst you are going to post here, I hate Michael Shumacher or something.

I was tryig to contact someone who was going by a silly psuedo name based on his car discription (I assume) but he won't respond which I find odd. Now I am thinking does he actually own this car because it sounds identical to the one I have in my workshop and is the whole post a wind up. If he had posted his real name and he was genuine and owed a similiar (indentical?) vehicle and I could have contacted him it could have been mutually benificial to both of us, most strange.

I will add to this, I am a subscriber to a trade site mostly USA people and am a moderator o the site and the discussion at the moment is whether to outlaw psuedo names especially as it is felt people would be more comfortable doing buisness with a proper name and face.

The reason I'm Circuitmarshal that is my web site.
People either know me as that or BaldyMan on some other forums, even at work I'm known as Baldy not Pete.
Some people at work don't know my name!
I think if I was on a trade site I would use my name and expect others to do the same.
I thought this was a fun type place not a business type place, which is another reason.
