Should be. I'd say that's a pretty fair top 12 going by the way everyone's driven all season. Well done to all and thanks for the entertainment. It's been a great season.

Tick Tock
NICHOLSON MCLAREN BRITISH HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP Rounds 33 & 34
BTD Martin Groves (3.5 Gould-NME GR55B) 36.48s – Outright Course Record ROUND 33 1 Groves 37.20s; 2= Mike Dean (3.5 Gould-NME GR55B) & Graeme Wight Jnr (3.5 GWR Predator-Hart/Pride V10) 37.69s; 4 Roger Moran (3.5 Gould-NME GR61X) 38.01s; 5 Simon Durling (2.7 Gould-NME GR55B) 38.62s; 6 Willem Toet (4.0 Pilbeam-Judd EV/J&F MP88) 38.91s; 7 Trevor Willis (2.0 OMS-Vauxhall/SBD CF04) 39.38s; 8 Scott Moran (3.5 Gould-NME GR61X) 39.77s; 9 Tim Mason (2.0 Reynard-Peugeot/Connaught 903) 40.64s; 10 Tom New (2.0 Pilbeam-Rover K/QED MP88 V6) 42.71s; 11 Paul Ranson (3.5 Gould-NME GR55B) 43.32s; 12 Stewart Robb (3.5 Pilbeam-DFR/Connaught MP58) 43.55s. ROUND 34 1 Groves 36.48s; 2 Mike Dean 36.85s; 3 Graeme Wight Jnr 37.05s; 4 Roger Moran 37.48s; 5 Willem Toet 37.65s; 6 Will Mason (2.0 Reynard-Peugeot/Connaught 903) 38.51s; 7 Simon Durling 38.52s; 8 Paul Ranson 39.43s; 9 Tim Mason 39.58s; 10 Trevor Willis 39.77s; 11 Stewart Robb 41.10s; 12 Tom New 41.51s. NB even if Trevor Willis had picked up a couple of extra points to get level on points with Paul Haimes and Karl Davison he still would have finished 12th! Martin Groves hill record run was a stonker! He was up at the split at Garden Gate but off the perfect line for the corner. He was awesome over the top of East Brae but in the Esses the tyres were howling in prrotest as he hurled the car through. To quote Graeme Wight Junior 'well you've thrashed my hill record!' mind you two hundredths or not it was a fantastic run and I was lucky enough to be there! |

I was at Oak Tree yesterday and the biggest impression was Mason the Younger. On the rev limiter from the previous corner with the bad camber and on the limit but tidy all the way to Garden Gate.
Scariest was a tie between Willem & Trevor on the first run off (Using the outside barrier to sort the understeer a la scaletrix) and Willem on the 2nd. First time I have seen anyone almost run out of road on the bit between the corner before Oak Tree and Oak Tree itself. Willem looked to be fighting either understeer or the limits of his car's grip the whole day. Best top 12 run-off I have seen for a while - Really competitive, everyone right on the limit and nobody fell off. |

TEAM moose site updated with doune update many thanx for everybodies support throughout season apologies to those who thought i would make a top 3 finish,i thought i could aswell but a few meetings i just didn't perform but it is very difficult to perform at top level for 34 rounds i take my hat off to martin, willem and roger for there efforts, that win eluded me this season but after being runner up on nine occasions to grovesy, i know i have the equipment to rectify that next year. For those of you not at doune R34 must go down as the best run off of the season so good to see jnr up top after what has been a nightmare season for him team moose was close loosing out to 3rd spot on 1 pt is a bitter pill to swallow but we will be back stronger and better prepared for 2006 it could turn out to better than this year regards mooooose Last edited by pilbeam buddy; 21 Sep 2005 at 17:01. You've had a brilliant season, Moose, and to be disappointed a little says much for your approach. Most of us expected you to get a win at least during the season, but we didn't quite expect Grovesy to be quite so dominant. I'll credit you with probably the most exciting run of the season at the last Prescott when I don't think you and the car had quite agreed on the plan, but that was far from typical of you're normal approach. One things certain, the battle for top 5 numbers next year is going to be very intense.

If you're suggesting I buy Willem's car... Doubt I'd even make it to the top, never mind top 5!

It has to be said that there has been plenty of quality attacking all the numbers this year. Grover,Toet,Moran x2, Durling, Merrick, Davison and Turnbull, all those are experienced, fierce competitors with very capable cars. So to take a brand new chassis and lump one spot further up the numbers with what's undoubtedly a better quality field than last year is not to be sniffed at. Yes, you've got a better car this year, but so has everybody else, and you've still gone up a notch. |

Hmm. I'm never quite going to live that one down! I can safely say I learned from that experience, which is sort of what the thread's about - who's going to do better next season!
On the subject of which, it's one thing us predicting numbers. I'd be interested to see how the drivers rate their chances. Do Paul and Mike think they can continue to move up with another year's experience behind them? Can Wi11iam take on Trevor's giant killing role now that Trev's moving up a class? Who is going to be seen as a threat next year? |

I have a feeling that Trevor is going to be a hard amn to beat if he drives the way he does with 2ltr. I think, the tilte will fall between Martin and GWJr and Willem with trevor in the fight for 4th/5th.
Gawwwd there's a bold prediction!!! |

Moving on
The big question that has to be answered is who will buy the cars currently for sale. For without a purchaser then Trevor and Willem will be doing a 'same again' for 2006.
I feel certain once Trevor has sold the OMS that the 'new' OMS will be competitive. Likewise Willem will be a huge threat at the highest level. I would have thought that the second place Pilbeam-Judd MP88 at £49,950 was a bargain, especially when compared to the cost of a NEW Gould! |

Worryingly, those smilies are in the right order, too.
I get the impression Willem doesn't want to get rid of the car, it's just a speculative offer to test the water. He's fairly confident that there's more time to come from it yet. I didn't realized Trevor's new car wasn't a done deal. I hope it happens, Steve will undoubtedly build something quick, and it will also be strong - several drivers owe a lot to the quality of his chassis after several monstrous shunts over the last 12 months, and I made a point of sending that message to him after my last meeting. It's actually started to develop into a concious thought as you approach the incident "He should be ok, it's an OMS" |

That thought ran through my head at the last SW meeting as we were driving to the incident at crossing... "At least its an OMS" I thought... |

Yep, I thought exactly the same - the first I saw of it was as I was in the middle of crossing. I saw the photos a couple of nights ago of the one at Prescott's Esses too.
Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that any other chassis are inferior, it's just that we haven't seen the evidence yet. Steve's cars have now proved themselves several times, and for that I thank him. |

Here's a real shocker, it impressed the hell out of me anyhow...
While Steve and Scary Trev were checking over the David Grey car at Prescott, we had a few minutes to chat and Steve mentioned that the car was 12 years old (it might have been fourteen, but it was definitely well over a decade). Let's think about that, Steve was building cars 14 years ago that could do over a decade of competition and still protect the driver at the crucial moment. The tone of his voice suggested that this didn't strike him as impressive, more the minimum standard. |
