A superb weekend! I would just like to thank all those that risked being with me, especially after the events of my previous times this year on Riches, as Andy said it appears the magnet was luckily not too effective on the 2cv's, Caterhams at Esses - yes!

Kevin, Mark, Avril, Simon, Adrian, Nick, Jerry, Keith, Ian & Anne it was a great pleasure to work with you all during the weekend at various locations and thanks for your company and the laughs! Hope to see you all at Snet soon!

To everyone in Race Control and in the Safety Car and to Alex and the Recovery Crew many thanks too for keeping everything running so smoothly.

After the event several of us were having our usual liquid de-brief in Tyrrell's with the 2cv competitors and they very kindly collected £200.72 for the marshals in appreciation of all our work during the event, which will be donated to the Motorsports Safety Fund on behalf of the 2cv Racing Club 24 hr / Snetterton Marshals.

Lastly I would say the whole atmosphere of the event was absolutely brilliant and the combination of the Stingway Festival combined with PistonFest is something certainly worth building on for the future events. Well done Simon, Steve, Pete, Paul and everyone involved in the 2cv Racing Club - Here's looking forward to 2007!

Snetterton 2CV 24hr 2006

I would also like to thank http://www.stingray.co.uk for the super goodie bags they gave away during the weekend, they were very much appricated!.

Although it does appear Terry did leave his magnet in his caravan for the 24 hr, much to everyones relief.
After getting the micky taken out of me all weekend by various people for being a 'magnet', I thought, right once and for all I will lose this tag.

Did I manage it?, Did I for on the Monday afternoon i had to dive out the way when a 2CV decided to go towards the garage rather than the track when pulling away after there pit-stop!!!!.

One day, I will prove you all wrong and lose this tag !

Hi, you would have been most welcome to join us, if only for one 4 hr session. In fact is probably a good race to do, as from a marshal perspective, there isnt the " car crashing" of some other championships. If you down for race next year, try coming out on post, like i say doesnt have to be whole weekend, but any assistance people can offer is greatly appreciated (and can be company for a poor lonely marshal! lol) and you never know you might like it and want to join us folk in orange. Altho this could lead to issue being raised on your sanity levels!

To echo snetmarshal, anyone who feels that can do even one or two shifts would be very welcome. It's a tough meeting to man anyway and the bad weather we've had overnight on the last couple has made it hard work for the guys outside. A little bit of company can make all the difference, even if it's only for one shift.

The Caterham boys and girls again did a sterling job at providing additional bodies to do some shifts.

Well done everyone

Fantastic! Great fun and atmosphere, thanks especially to the marshals and organisers, memories = marshals flagging (i mean flag ing) was excellent (even at 2.00am!) love the light sabres'!, brave chaps at russell pushing 2cv's off track in the pouring rain (wonder if you realise just how much grip the 2cv's dont have?),
thanks to pit marshals for fining me donation to 'simply the breast' for my 'transgressions' (you know who you are!!!), lookn forward to next year, thanks again.

Well by next year i'll have a far bit more experiance, and will try and make the effort to get down there.

Had taken my tango man suit with me, just incase there was a call for anybody to help while at pistonfest. (plus the hi vis jacket is warmer in the wind than anything else i have.)

I must say thanks once again this year to all the marshals that were present at the Stingray 24hr - your dedication and enthusiasm was well received and welcomed, and I hope you'll be looking to do it all again next year, as the competitors will be!

Our team (Team Stinky) had a disasterous race. We were on the pace, but sadly endured a series of unfortunate mishaps: 2 broken gearboxes, one broken steering rod, 3 alternators over the weekend, 1 ignition coil, a twisted chassis, a bent front end, a jammed throttle cable, and a buzzed engine (8,000 RPM!) only scratch the surface of the story of our weekend

For my part, thanks to the marshal at pitlane in, who assisted me onto the back of the flatbed when the steering rod gave way, and the knackered coil wouldn't let me restart the engine. Sorry, the light sabre fell off the roof when you weren't watching

Hope you all had a great time, and hope to see you next year, but not in a professional capacity

Thanks to the Team Member who gave us all in Pit Lane a laugh late on Sunday night by covering the rear of there car in foam after mishearing his Pit Crew. It went something like this;

1) Car pulls in, team shouts out 'Flat Tyre'.

2) Mechanic runs out of garage, pulls the pin on an Extinguisher and covers the rear of the car with foam.

3) Team looks around bewildered before saying the car has a 'Flat Tyre' and is not 'On Fire!'

4) Everyone falls about laughing, Team Member walks off embarrassed!.

Can't remember which team it was, but it was really funny and heard the Team Member is still getting stick for it !!

White flag man should be qualifying in the top 5 on the gridWhite flag man should be qualifying in the top 5 on the grid

What an great, unforgetable weekend .
My first time at Snett, my first 24 hr race.
First of all, well done to all the marshals for keeping going, especially thought the bright moonlit night If it hadn't been for the bar being open all night, I don't think I would have managed to get back to my post .
Message to Lord Summerisle, you missed out big time. I'm a rookie and ofcourse you are going to make mistakes, especially when your on post on your own, but the Snett guys/girls are a fantastic bunch of friendly people and always willing to help, it's an event that all rookies should do.
Special thanks to Terry and Jerry for all their help over the weekend. Thanks to Colin, Leslie, Dawn & Andy for keeping me in the bar on Monday night, joining in the party and preventing me from driving home until the next day (it was nice to see the Ascaris, Ferrari & Maserati going round on a lovely sunny Tuesday morning, a perfect end). I looked at my diary and have already rearranged it so that I can do the GT/F3 weekend in July, especially as Caterhams are on the bill as well .
Well done to Alex and the rest of the recovery crew for keeping the whole thing going so smoothly through the numerous excersions.
Well done to Mike Whitney for keeping it all in order.
A huge thanks goes to the 2CV teams. you were wonderful. I'm glad I was marshalling through the night and not trying to keep one of the cars on the island throughout Sunday night. Just like to say that the big green bit on the outside of riches is not part of the circuit, it's grass!
Well done the girls of car 14, you had your problems, but when you were going you were going well, and as for car 70, all the marshals agreed you should have been given a finish. To get to the back straight on the last lap after 24 hours, then run out of fuel and then been told that you can't get your car over the line because your 5 minutes is up, is a bit harsh, to say the least.
Once again I thank you all, and see you soon, Nick.
P.S 50 things to do before you die.......No.27 work on a post with Terry during a Caterham race.

it was a pleasure to detain you in the bar! even if i did head off home mid evening. Another one to add to your list is to work with Terry when he is at riches!! then you know you will be busy!

We shall see you at the F3/GT meeting then, no doubt we will be in the bar then at some point aswell! (well beleive it is called the after race debrief!)

Cheers Andy,
I was with Terry at The Esses, after lunch on Sunday, and we ended up with Caterhams everywhere then! He has a torch you can see from the moon and a magnet that can bring down aircraft,
but you couldn't meet a nicer bloke.

Nick and Adrian, it was a pleasure to have you both on the team, thanks for all your hard work with the flags etc and all your support throughout the event.

Nick, glad to see that my crew managed to continue with the important aspects of marshal training, the Snet way, in the bar after I left Monday night.

Adrian, I was beginning to wonder why some of my regular flag crew seem to volunteer to move to Senna or Revett straights when they see that we should actually be on Riches, Esses or Russell. I was starting to get a bit of a complex about it!

I believe I have certainly met and chatted with more drivers this year at Riches and Esses than were actually in the paddock which is a bit worrying! Even more worrying is when Mike Whitney is saying that they need to put a photocopier on the post with me to keep up with the paperwork!

Anyway, really glad that you both enjoyed the meeting and Nick we are pleased to hear that you've managed to rearrange so that you can make the F3/GT's (wonder what antics they will get up to at Riches!!) and hopefully Adrian you can make it too, certainly you're both more than welcome to join our crew on the bank if you wish to anytime you're able to get to Snet. Yes a few sessions at the gym could be useful for us all if the last few meetings are anything to go by. See you soon,

Terry

White Flag Man - yes it was unfortunate that car 70 wasn't classified but it was written in the regulations for the event that to be classified a car had to cross the line within 5 minutes of the chequered flag. Unlike the blue book, the reg didn't even specify under own power so had there been time we were prepared to tow them round and let the car be pushed over the line. Whilst some rules may be open to interpretation or application, that is pretty clear cut and not something that clerks or timekeepers can vary just to suit the nature of the event.

Unfortunately, there has to be some limit set otherwise we could still be waiting. And imagine if you were in a team that lost a podium place to a team by stretching that limit - I know it is a great event and has a unique atmosphere but the competitive streak is still present. Ironically the team probably had enough time for a 'splash & dash' near the end without losing a place.

Dave,
As car 70 finally stopped right in front of me, I was aware of all the efforts that would have been made, had it been allowed. I'm not blaming anybody for this, the rules is the rules. Having said that, the driver wqs not concerned about even being placed last, he & his team just didn't want to be placed as not finished, especially as they were the only ones.

As the timekeepers are responsible for publishing the results then I guess we can't argue with that!

In the 24-hour regs it stated that to be classified a car had to complete 50% of the distance of the winner (Blue book is 80%) so perhaps next year regs could state cross the line within 10 minutes, giving us time to tow anyone back.

Well done Adrian, I was waiting to see how long it would be before anyone noticed - good to see you would make a good observer!!

Yes this one is from the PistonFest's visitors to the 24hr and the group concerned found a novel way of moving their tent closer to some of their friends!
