I'm getting very worried, Dad was talking about driving the car yesterday. I did remind him about his operation and a period of 4-6 weeks before he can drive. It's great he's feeling so well and wanting to get on with things but I need suggestions on slowing him down a bit. Rescue dude's comment about only needing two things in life is quite appropriate, anyone got some spare duct tape ?
Dad is still on the high dependancy unit, only because there are no beds on the main renal ward. He is beginning to walk around more and is building a better appetite. Hopefully when I see him today, he will only be left with one more tube to come out. Also the doctors are saying how pleased they are with his recovery and that he may come home this weekend. I'm still receiving cards for Dad which I will pass on, so once again, many thanks Last edited by Tim Hull; 21 Jun 2007 at 06:02. |

Tim, your dad is bound to be feeling great, he's got a new kidney and his body is working better than it has before, or for a long time anyway. Your dad will be thinking he can do anything, as he feels better in his restfull hospital invironment, but I am sure when he comes home and starts to try and do the normal things he will realise that he is still rather burised and fragile, your dad is a very proud man and will not want to admit his vunurable state to his family who he has cared for and has looked over as the head of the household, and are worried for him. If you are at all concerned when he gets home, have a word with the aftercare team or his hospital consultant. And if that dose not work let rescue dude loose on him x x x x x |

Hopefully the card signed by us all at Prescott this weekend will cheer Alan up. Keep us informed on whats happening Tim, hopefully Alan is fit and well soon and back to marshalling duties whenever he feels fit enough.

I have just spent a lovely weekend at Prescott (EXCLUDING THE RAIN) so have been getting updates about Dad via phone. The good news over the weekend is the kidney is beginning to show signs of waking up. Its just a horrible waiting game to find out if the kidney will work or not. Also good news is Dad's appetite is coming back. All tubes are now gone so that makes mobility even easier. Dad is still having to go for dialysis until the kidney is working better.
Many thanks to all the marshals and drivers who signed the card for Dad at the Prescott weekend and a special thanks to Shireen for taking the card around everyone (and the baked potatoes). |

So even the baked potatoes signed the card?
Seriously, mate, it's really good to know things are looking OK, and thanks for keeping us all updated. PS - no rain at VSCC Loton Park |

Tim,
Good to hear your Dad's on the road to recovery, and look forward to having you both parked up next to us again for another pleasant evening camped up at Loton Park next time. |

Have just enjoyed the weekend at Shelsley. Not too much rain (when your sat in the back of the rescue unit) but Sunday afternoon turned out to be very warm in the sunshine.
Dad remains in hospital, waiting for the kidney to start functioning better. Until this happens, he will continue to have dialysis. One advantage to him being stuck in hospital is I received my first text message from him the other day. The cards that keep coming are very much appreciated. Next weekend, I'm marshalling at the Quinton Stages Rally on Saturday and will then head up to Loton Park for Sunday. Hope to see you there. |

I suspect that we don't need that expanding on in public!
Tell him we missed him lots, but under the circumstances we're happy to wait for him to get much better before marshalling again. There's free tickets available as soon as he's able to make it even if not in orange. |

I'm pleased to say that Dad came out of hospital today. He is very much looking forward to seeing his friends from the Midland Hills but it wont be for a while yet. From personal experience, the progress of recovery increases when you leave hospital.
There is still a hill to climb and a risk things could still go wrong but at least its all going in the right direction for now. Perhaps Scott Moran or Martin Groves could share some of their secrets on getting up hills quickly ! |

Just a quick update to say the kidney appears to be making good progress. Blood results are improving all the time.

Tim,
Alistair (Munro) here Would you pass my best regards on to your Dad, not to mention our congratulations and relief that the transplant worked. When he won the Shelsley Marshals trophy, many people mentioned that he was a most deserving winner, and the type of guy you want manning a hill. Cheers, Al |
