A nice sentiment, but who the heck cares about some obscure Ford special, start your own thread, or post some pictures, I get bored reading you fading memories.

Pace Bauble, reading the meanderings brought to mind the name Doc Merfield in relation to V8 Cortinas, and a little light research brought up this somewhat dusty thread: https://tentenths.com/forum/showthre...+sanger&page=3

Not sure if the factory went very far with that plan , but a few private owners did race them .

Just going back to this for a moment, my recollections of that time are that Ford wasn't that concerned about the Yank tanks; OK, they had plenty of grunt, but they were nowhere near as nimble as the Lotus Cortinas in the hands of such luminaries as Clark, Hill or Whitmore. The tanks didn't handle as well nor could they brake as easily as the Cortinas; unlike the Goodwood specials that we see more and more of nowadays.

Also, Ford had the Escort on the horizon for International competition; they already had some experience of it's potential in the hands of Ford's boss' son, Roger Taylor, who started campaigning one prepared and maintained by Ford's Boreham engineers. And in the background were firms such as Broadspeed, Superspeed and Willments, plus Zakspeed and Eggburger.

This has just nudged a memory in the back of my brain of a Ford Corsair with a V8 in the mid to late 60s. Run by either Martin Maudling or Alan Peer/East Anglian Racing Team. If the latter I could see a potential Ford involvement.

I can only recall Maudling with his Anglia; not the quickest of pilots around. As for EART and/or Peer, that was part of the Roger Taylor team; Roger drove the larger engined Anglia, whilst Alan drove in a lower class. And then they both swapped for the Escorts maintaining the different classes.

Both of their cars were entered at different meetings under varying entry names, to suit Ford's needs. Sometimes just under EART, but also, for example, under the guise of Dagenham Motors or other main dealers that possibly required a publicity boost. However, they always ran the same two cars and always looked after by the crew from Boreham under the watchful eye of Bert Avard, one of, if not the, top engineer at Boreham and who was a true gentleman , who would help pretty well anyone on the grid if needed.

Glad you are back Bauble , we all missed you ???????

But a question about your post 492 , 4th picture .The green Aston .
Do you remember what event / where that picture was from .
The registration is not from that car , and an original car would be probably much to expensive to race .
The last original ,[ that I know of ], sold for £17.5 million at auction , so that might well be one of the replica cars that I helped to build with these people.

Thanks for that . It does give me a bit of a reference to work from .
I helped build a lot of those replicas , perhaps over 20 .
It does look exactly like the ones I did . Although a lot of them were Jag engines , that one has an Aston engine so that narrows it down a bit .

We had one customer who got his own Aston 12 spark plug engine which I believe cost about £70,000 ,just for the engine .

Still not sure about that one .The registration on it is for a Porsche , which makes me think it is not an original car , because an original car with original registration would be much more valuable .

A few details , like the little front winkers just in front of the headlights , would not have been on original , but were on ones I did .
And a lot of the details were as we made them , but we were copying a lot from the original cars
So , all in all , still not sure .

Maybe - but when you look at the history of the car it left the UK many years ago and would have been removed from the DVLA database at that time. I think looking at the UK VIN is a red-herring. It has also been rebuilt on a few occasions, so details might easily have changed from the original.
