Hi

I found this site while searching for history on my Hillman Avenger Tiger race car and what a great site it is

I currently own the ex-Ron Field Avenger Tiger which is currently waiting restoration. I can confirm that the engine is still the same 1600cc Griffin motorsport engine that Ron ran with. I also had involvement with the Corgi model which could have been better detailed as they used Tiger road car exactons instead of Ally Cats and a standard interior again from the road car model.

If anyone has any pictures or even better video footage of the Avenger Tiger pictured below, then please PM me.

Sad reason for a thread revival ....

Vince Mitchell passed away yesterday (1st Nov) after a long battle against cancer.
A b***dy good engineer, and a handy peddler in a Sunbeam Ti.

The yellow one I bought as a XR2 one owner road car and raced it in the Group 1 with a 1300 engine.
I also raced this car at Lydden as a 1300 or 1600 in there own saloon series.
I sold this car to Hugh Poston who then sold it Neil Bray.

Just jumped on here for a browse, many names i recall having some great races with.

When i sold the mk1 mexico i built a mk1 xr2 racing it for a few years to good results before moving on to V6 Eurocar 98/2002 then on to pick ups for 3 seasons.
Now fast forward to 2009 i linked up with ol' mate Tony Paxman from eurocar days, and we run a very nice/quick mk2 escort in group2 zakspeed livery.
mainly doing european longer races. Plenty of pots to prove provenance.

Anyone know where my old mk1 mexico is living these day's please give me a call. andy pyke 07778 185606

A bit of an update, Super road saloons Lotus Sunbeam's....

Neil Hasler sold his white and green stripe car to Liegh Fraklin around 04/05, that came in a few years back for some improvements and upgrades, he competes in Toyo Racing Saloons, although I haven't seen him in the results for a couple of years.

Neils red Sunbeam I built back in '89, got sold to Mark Wyatt around '93, he went on to class champion, (I think), Mark sold the car to Steve Taylor, he done a few races around '95/'96 he then sold to Mark Monk around '98, he done few races, then sold to Dave Thorpe for track days, he then sold to Steve Sutton for track days, he then sold back to Steve Taylor for track days, it came back in for restoration and improvements a few years back,
Steve sold the car on last year, he didn't get around to building it up again.

Spoke to Jon Woodward not long ago..he still has his orange race car, not raced since around '93/94.

Not sure if Rob Beaumont still has his car. Woody might know.

Mikes Super Road Saloon car became his Mod Prod car for '92/'93, then became my Mod Prod car as from '94 to present

My first Super Road Saloon car '90/'91 then became Eric Crawley's, he then sold to Nick Kaye around '97, Nick went on to class champion in around '99/'00, car then came back to me, I then sold to Dave Thorpe, he done few Mod Prod races. he still has the car.

I spoke to Nick Kaye at Brands last year, after the Sunbeam he went on to racing Ferrari's with good success, he expressed an interest in his old Sunbeam,

My second Super Road saloon car (my first green and orange stripe), I raced a few rounds in '92/'93, sold to a friend as road car to fund present Mod prod car. that car changed hands to another friend around '04, it came back in a
couple of years ago for restoration and upgrades, still used on track days.

Nostalgia Ain't What It Used To Be!

You can't beat a bit of a thread revival!

I came back here after a few mentions about my Brother's and my own Nova Sports elsewhere.

Still good to see some of you out and about from time to time. Plus those who have reconnected via Facebook too. I guess that's taken away much of the jibber jabber from here.

I still intend to restore my Nova Sport back to it's 1991 spec at some point. The GSi that I ran in latter years is another work in progress job, which now sits in ModProd spec, and will probably evolve further for running elsewhere.

Happy days. A shame it got ruined.

Yes i got a little bored & yes i raced my Mk1 escort (mexico) as an RS2000 trim for my first season of Super road saloons. Having sprinted the car the year before, my wife couldn't believe why we drove all the way to Oulton Park (for what she thought was a sprint)
Raced in class B with firenzas , lotus sunbeam et al;
Was well outclassed with a medeocre spec 2 ltr pinto.
Decided following season to fit an all steel revvy x flow & run in class C. This we ran back in Mexico (red stripes) guise. Had a good number of very succesful seasons until selling in 93' to make way for a mk1 xr2, again running a Tim Swadkin engine, more success followed before selling the car to Ian Sturt who campaigned the Lydden series foe 2 seasons, winning overall.
We moved on to Eurocar V6 for 4/5 seasons then a brief foray in Pickup truck series (3 seasons)
Been mucking about with ol' pal Tony Paxman Mk2 escort zakspeed/castrol reincarnation at Daytona florida, + most of europe. Where we enjoyed some 1 hr & 2hr races together for entry fees far cheaper than contempory uk circuits.

Be great to catch up with some old names.
