Someone (a legend if he is reading this) has just reminded me about the Lynn grid penalty! Could have been on pole!

Shame about the weather, I know the cars could have gone much faster.
Speaking about that, any reason why LMP2 wasn't included in the competition? |

Sorry, what was wrong with the weather? There were a couple of spots of rain. Did it matter? Quote:

1) #6 Porsche and #3 Caddy 2) #51 and 50 Ferraris 3) #35 Alpine and then..... How does the 5 place grid penalty get applied to the #2 Caddy. Do they go from 2nd to 7th? How does it slot in with the Jota with no times, and the BMW with all times deleted? Will the 5 place penalty turn into a 4 place penalty and Caddy starts 6th? |

That's bad luck for people who have had to go through scrutineering.

Back from the circuit and eating my words. I've never been a fan of Hyperpole, I'd (still) much prefer the previous 6 hours of qualifying, but I have to say, sitting in a packed T17 grandstand, that session was as exciting as it gets, IMO. What an incredible outcome! This year's race could well be truly awesome!

Le Mans 2024 Test Day - Practice - Qualifying
Quote:
I felt the same. I was in the we should just have four practice sessions that happen to decide the grid camp. But it was brilliant. My argument was partly it’s a 24 hour race so qualifying is irrelevant. Well that argument can also mean what does it matter. That was fun. Let’s do it again. |

Atmosphere in T23 during Hyperpole last night was probably the most electric I can remember at Le Mans. Terrific fun! Would I like to go back to old style Le Mans qualifying? As a trackside spectator, yes, but I 'get' completely why Hyperpole was a necessary evolution to the qualifying procedure.

The ACO must have been rubbing their hands with glee at how that session went. It was the perfect vindication for what I've always considered a thoroughly barmy idea and it must have made for brilliant TV. I'd still take back the 6 hours of qually in a heartbeat though.....

It would make brilliant tv if the cretins directing would just show the action and allow the commentary team to build it up, they are learning as they did this eventually but for about 15 minutes it was as usual endless pit reaction shots, until Haven and Ant pointedly asked for them to show action. This is not their job and shows the ineptitude of the people used to direct who clearly are not racing fans, they reality tv people trying to work out how to cover racing.

Another commentary for the pole lap. I also wanted to listen to Radio Le Mans's commentary for the hyperpole but the replay they "uploaded" already doesn't work |

Update from Jota. They are building the car up around a new tub, normally a 3 week process that they are attempting in 24 hours. They have been given permission to do a shakedown on the airfield next to the circuit on Friday evening.
