STEALTHY should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Anyway conjecture at this point. Lowndes won.
That doesn't count, it was a Ford so he's allowed to ignore safety rules

Well, if we don't look too closely then Lowndes won.

Would Lowndes getting a drive-through for the cone have made much of a difference?

The time he gained running slicks when those that stayed on wets WAY too long was massive, a trip through pitlane might have only dropped him a position or two further than where he ended up, and he was behind the likes of Whincup after the change to slicks anyway, the next safety car would have bunched him back up to pretty much where he was.

I don't get the complaining though, he hit the cone in front of officials, it was caught on camera, the relevant people would have been notified, and it was obviously judged as not a breaking of the rules. Full Stop. Time to move on, or do we want to start turning this into weekly attacks on officials like NRL referee's cop.....

Anyone who says #888 didn't deserve the win would probably also argue #05 didn't earn the win in 1979.....

And i'm a Ford fan.

I can only suspect the extenuating circumstance is the cone is on exit from the 888 pit.

Is Pit entry not once they are running parallel to the track on pit straight ie going past the cone? The curvy bit prior isn't the pits, more a speed control function? As such, so in fact hadn't actually entered pit lane before going gardening and then onto the track proper. That would be my guess.

Did Larry get a drive through?

too my knowledge its is the line where you exit the track, a few years Whincup went off there and he made it clear that he would have got a penalty if he had gone back onto the track.

I guess the rule has changed, but ive never heard anything to suggest this, same as the cone rule

Then why aren't the limiters being activated at that stage? Was JW hit for a dangerous rejoin to the track, or dangerous pit entry?

The limiters come on when they enter the pit complex itself

Its the same at every track, not just bathurst

Don't forget he had a very good reason for missing pit entry that year.....

Does anyone have a link to this? Curious to see how close he was before the green went out!

It appeared as if he was coming over the rise when you first saw the lights flashing green and they flashed 2 or 3 times before going orange. He would have been several hundred metres behind the SC when they went to orange, however he was moving at a pretty good speed. He didn't say at what time he first saw them such as coming onto mountain straight etc ?
He gave the commentary team a pretty good serve about having a say without knowing the facts.

I couldn't see it well enough to see the green, but I think there's a few factors to consider:

1. The hump means you probably can't see as far ahead there as you think you might.
2. You don't exactly want to just sit there and stare at the lights flying up mountain straight
3. I suspect at the very least the safety car indication was unclear and potentially confusing.
4. I suspect the safety car didn't take the center of the track which would have made its position clearer because of worry about getting hit by a car coming over the hump.

Unfortunately none of us or the commentary team were there in the car, with very little time for consideration, in the heat of the moment.

I certainly would love to have a good slomo look at the best quality footage from Jamie's car.

SC should have been waiting at the top of the hump, like in previous years, for a start.

What was also interesting from the footage that they showed today was Dutton not being overly keen on telling JW to pit for "wets" at the request and then a firm order from Dane.

Thanks for that

After seeing the footage, i dont think a penalty was deserved at all, green lights flashing until he was less than 100 metres behind, and then turned off, by then its too late. Before seeing this i was 50% JW fault 50% Race controls fault. Seeing it now, its 100% race controls fault, and he shouldn't have had a penalty.

I think there was enough screwing up by all concerned to not hand out a penalty.

Sometimes race control need to understand they make mistakes as well.

But also find it difficult to feel any sympathy for drivers who drive flat out under safety car conditions.

did he pass the safety car which had a green light on when he went past? Yes. No doubt, even the mot red blinkered person ever agrees (roland danes) . Then a drive through applies.

somewhat concerened about some of the posters on here,

This part shouldn't factor in at all. Its how this category is run, so he (and others) arent doing anything wrong by flying past the SC car and crash scenes at full noise.

Is it right in general racing? No. Is it right in V8sc. Yes!
