BT-23
Andrew,
Wow! All of this bringing back lots of memories. I am wondering if anyone has a list of which BT-23 was acquired by Fred Opert here in thew States? Reason being that I had originally purchased a Lotus 31 from a gentleman in the San Francisco and subsequently made a deal with Fred Opert to take it in part trade for a new BT-23. I'd love to know the chassis number if any paperwork still exists of Operts sales. |

Hello everyone,
I am the owner of the car object of the post #459. I got the car from Bernardo Antonio, former pilot and owner of Scuderia Piccionaia, Lugano, who presently resides in Bellinzona, Switzerland. He acquired the car in 1967 at Albi, just after the Gran Prix, from A. B. Rees and R. Legged, with the intermediation of Jochen Rindt. I do have the documentation, included the original calling cards of the three above. This car was maintained in Italy by Tino Brambilla. For a while it was used by Enzo Corti when he damaged his own BT23-2, which had 23-4 scratched on the chassis. This was in 1968. For avoiding paying tax and duties in Italy, Corti glued the indication BT23-4 on the dashboard of the Antonio's car. What is sure is sure is that the chassis is an original RF5. It was stored for over 30 years by Antonio Bernardo. This means that nobody could have forged a different number on it. Also at that time no one could have any interest in playing with chassis numbers, as at that time the car was of no historic value. Also for custom purpouses what mattered was the BT23-xxx number and not the chassis #. I do have a comprehensive photographic documentation regarding this car from the moment it was taken out of the storage warehouse up to now. RF5, according to records should belong to BT23-1. On the other hand internet records regarding the Albi Gran Prix indicates that the car used by Rindt was the BT23-5. |

Hi Chris,
Hope this is ok putting this photo etc on this thread. Am still archiving. Checked out your website. Could you confirm this please? I think this is Joe Applegarth round about 1975 Brabham BT23C (chassis no 5 and 16).Photo was at Longridge as Joe was always racing there. Andy Clegg. |

BT23/EMC
I really appreciate the exhaustive research done by Andrew Fellowes and the insights by Allen Brown about my car. I am now calling it an EMC, and my plan is to restore it as it was in 1971 with a 1600 restricted engine, and race it in F3, as the Jody Scheckter car. I am hoping that as such,it will be accepted at Monaco in 2012. So I guess as long as no definitive information pops up disclaiming that, my assumption is that it is the EMC car. I now know that it was medium blue, but I do not have any color photo of it in the day.

http://www.classicandperformancecar....f2-car-offered They seem to be capitalising very much on it being used by Jochen Rindt originally. Very step sale estimates of 360K - 500K Euros. It only made 235K Euro, about 330K AUD. Still pretty good. I like the description that it is not in top condition. Looks pretty good to me. Google Auctionata for sale details. |

I now own this car. Are you aware of the origins of the RF44 stamping on the chassis ? |
