Does anyone know the reason why Bourdais got out of the car with still 7'41'' left for the session ?

I wondered that, but haven’t seen anything official.

But I thought he had gone out for another run when the red flag came out?

Le Mans 2024 Test Day - Practice - Qualifying
I did also wonder if they felt they were too far back in the queue and not confident they could get two fliers in. Although that was when I wasn’t sure how long was left.
If they had just gone out they might have used up precious fuel so couldn’t go again. DSC reports it was fuel. https://www.dailysportscar.com/2024/...t-le-mans.html |

I certainly thought that was it. When the Porsche fooled us all by taking pole it was hilarious to see the media contingent rush out of the Cadillac pits en masse to dash down to Porsche......

Le Mans 2024 Test Day - Practice - Qualifying
Just checked and Bourdais had gone out.
First attempt was 5 laps (3 fliers). He came in and went out again. Only did one lap on that and it was very slow because of the red, but that could be enough to stop the final push. Especially as it isn’t the first flier that does it. Alex Lynn also put and stopped on his 6th lap due to the red. However they might have used different amounts of fuel as Bourdais did more really hot laps in the first attempt. Remember he snuck in another flier after talking to the team. That extra flier was pole for a bit… And they might have been fueled differently in the first place. |

It was strange (and exciting) as you just knew when they were celebrating with Bourdais in the Cadillac pit that someone else was going to take it. The fact that it was a Porsche came as a huge surprise to us, and most others, I think....

According to AUTOhebdo Bourdais said that the Cadillac was limit on fuel and they couldn't risk a red flag in case of lack of fuel which would have withdrawn the laps times by their fault.

How long has that rule been in place about lap times being deleted if you cause a red flag? I know I can be behind the times but I knew nothing about it until the Toyota debacle on Wednesday night.

What if the Lynn Caddy took pole from Bourdais but then had to drop 5 grid spots, that could have been the best scenario for Caddy! The broadcast mentioned it was new for this year. |

I reckon Estre's pole survived by about 3mm or rear right rubber touching the line. Awesome run. The onboard looked like a rally car at times.

Everyone was on fumes at the end. The Alpine, the Porsche, the Ferrari all had fuel alarms visible on the cockpit from onboards. For a race where they say qualifying doesn't matter, these manufacturers were not just sitting around...

That’s because it is. The photo I took of the #12 was more naked. I wasn’t as close either. One sec.

The front shot didn’t work as the body work was in the way. Sorry about that. In my haste to be live I failed and I nearly got run over by a scooter. Still now you can see what it will look like. |
