I can find only two ATCC races where the two VLs ran together: the Wanneroo and Mallala rounds in 1989. Slako ran his car at Bathurst with Geoff Leeds (Damon Smith is also listed in my data). I also have a feeling one of the cars ran in that year's AGP support races.

Barbagallo appeared at the 1990 Wanneroo ATCC round, and that is the last time I can find either of the cars entered in their original pink livery.

I believe that Paul Davis (now with Haltec) has one of these in restoration at present. If I know Paul, when it's finished it will be immaculate.

One car i mentioned a while back but never found an answer was the Chris Heyer Audi 5+5, any information known on what happened to it?

I was off the net for a few days and you guys start talking about WA cars!!!

Slako's rover went to Geoff herbert for awhile and I think he sold it two years ago.

On of the walkinslows one is or was being converted to a sports sedan.

He built a vr/vs and I not sure where that ended up.

Alf's vp and vs where all brand spanking perkins built chasis if I remember correctly.
Farrel had a moment in the Ian Love vp at the 300 one year when it did 3 laps and then fuel that was sloshing away under his feet in the pedal box caught fire and up she went. Car was rebuilt and it wasnt much fire but enough to scare the c!@# out of him!

Slako's VR first appeared at the 96 Waneroo ATCC round. He then raced it at the first 3 rounds of the 97 Amscar series in 97 and it then never appeared in a V8 Supercar race again.

Alf Barbagello VN was Perkins Engineering chassis 015. He raced it until 95 with Perkins upgrading it to a VP and VR along the way. Grant Johnson raced it in 96/97, and Nathan Petty in 98/99. It was raced in the Konica series in 01 by a few diffrrent drivers and by Ben Eggleston at the Bathurst Konica round in 04.

The Ian Love VP was Perkins Engineering chassis 018. It was raced by Shaun Walker in 96/97 before being sold to Mike Imrie and then Shane Beikoff.

There was a second Australian Rover. Former rock XD owner John Donnelly had one after being forced to retire arguably Australia's most famous racecar. I'll try to find out what happened to it next time I see JD.

It's timely that you mention the Rock Falc, as it is 25 years since Dick got "rocked" Westpoint will have at Bathurst 1000 commemorative stress rocks. They are set to be a few $ each, but wait till AVE$CO get their hands on the project and see what the final price will be.

I thought that the Robinson/Jeffries was built by Barry Robinson's band of merry men, and was not strictly a Group A car, rather being somewhat akin to a modified Group E spec machine.... it was slow, anyway.

The car is nearing the end of a full ground up restoration buy a father and son duo here in Victoria and wouldn't be to far off complete.
The car had a fair old life in the hands of GRM after Gibsons and the extent that these guys have gone to in the resto. to bring it back to Gibson specs is amazing.

Gibson Motorsport used 2 VRs during 96/97, GMS004 which was Skaife's car from 95 and GMS005 which was built new for 96. GMS004 was used at Sandown (still in Winfield red), the AGP, Indy and Oran Park races, with GMS005 in the other races.

GMS004 was raced in the enduros by Waldon and Noske and then sold to Garry Rogers Motorsport for Steven Richards and Garth Tander to race in 97 and 98. It was then sold to Clive Wiseman and raced by Mick Donaher, Tyler Mecklem and Dean Lindstrom in 99 and 00.

After Skaife left at the end of the 97 ATCC, GMS005 was raced by Darren Hossack in 97 and 98 and then sold after Bathurst to Ric Wood who exported the car to the UK for use as a sports sedan and raced it until at least 2001. See http://www.ricwood.com/racing.htm

I thought Ben Eggleston used the ex. Dougal McDougall VT/VX at Bathurst in 2004. If memory serves me correct that is a Perkins Engineering shell chassis number PE033

G,day guys,
long time reader, first time user. Tim Slako was doing some work on an L34 for me (one of the few guys left who know how to tune the twin coil distributors) early in '98 and the pink V.R. was still in his workshop then, however he was really angry at the W.A.S.C.C. about something or other and was telling his staff that he was going to burn the bloody thing.
I don't know where the shell ended up but I will ask him when I see him next.
A good friend of mine has got Tims L34 and it is currently running the supercar motor from Barbagallo's V.N./V.P. It is in street trim but not driven often, though with Group C racing again he has expressed interest in restoring it back to race trim. This fella also owns the alloy panels from the Negus H.D.T. Torana including nosecone, bonnet, front fenders, rear doors, and boot lid.

According to the book "BATHURST", about the 1985 race.

"The No. 16 example, a pukka English entry, was also an Andy Rouse built machine, and was infact driven by Rouse in 1984. It was originally built for production racing and had done a hard season in that form before being purchased by Englishman Lawrence Fagg, who converted it to Group A and brought it to Bathurst for fellow Englishman Barry Robinson and Jon Jeffery to drive. The car raced with carburettion on its 3.5 litre V8, and rear drums, which contributed to its being uncompetitive, in what was to be its last race before sale."

Pink VL Commodore's - Two of them were present at the 1992 ATCC round at Wanneroo, one of them driven by Ian Love. The 1992 ATCC review doesn't show the other one enough to let me read the windscreen strip.

So because its in print you think its gospel ?
Plenty of "in print" books are wrong because the authors assumed instead of investigating the actual.
Now Im saying its not true in this case but plenty of examples have been wrong in the past, just the real owners of the machinery have not wanted their names be made public.

I just saw Glenn Setons #30 Ford Credit EF/EL Falcon on the back of a trailor when i was on my way to work this morning out near Windsor (N.S.W.)
All painted up with what looked like original sponsors. Didnt have the front splitter on though. I assume that was just for transport though.

AMRY 22 says the only WA Commodores belonged to Alf Barbagallo, Ian Love and Phil Johnson. Pretty sure Barbagallo would have had his VN by this stage, so it was probably Johnson in the pink car.

G,day Cavvy, The panels were from Waynes L34, not the A9X.(Hatchback.)
The A9X was owned by Paul Kramer before Paul Stubber bought it to race in Group C. He has been racing it in the U.S.A. and doing quite well I might add.
Don't know what happened to Waynes L34.

I found this image recently, and can only presume it is the 05 car re-numbered to number 3 for the photo shoot. Any other ideas as to the identity of the 'No.3 HDT VL'?

Nice find!

It does look like they did just re-number the 05 VL; if you look at the number on the door, the reflection changes slightly just above the '3', as if they'd put a sticker over the paint.

Presumably the VL is chassis # 15 which Neal Lowe had overseen the construction of over the off season. The car was never raced by HDT as by the beginning of the 87 season the Brock / Holden split had happened, Harvey had headed for the exit gate and the car was sold to Allan Moffat and air freighted to Europe for the WTCC.

Brock started the season with 2 VKs deviod of all Holden signage and didn't debut a VL until mid season.
