Back then, the braking zones were much longer and the cars kind of eased into the corners. Today, the cars divebomb and attack the corners. |

I was really surprised how much information is shown on Audi's onboard streams.
You can see Kilometers per hour, RPMs, what gear they are in and the vertical and lateral G forces. |

They place the camera there because that's the best outward view there is! If they had a camera behind the driver we would get a limited view of the outside surroundings. We already know they sit pretty far away from the windscreen, so a camera there is nice but it won't show much of the racing action.

Some interesting stuff here from DRIVE. A new Driver's Eye series following different guys. First up is Leh Keen at the Montreal Grand-Am race.
Some good behind-the-scenes insight in the paddock and also setting up the car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpQ7JaUYdv4 |

e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3YgDeoKXeo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNhpIrzydtk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru-w6VngDz8 Then in 2011, both Audi's and Peugeot got the "almost next to windscreen" cams, which undoubtedly show the road best, but makes you think the car drives itself... Also have to wonder why Toyota didn't have a camera once post-LM rounds, not even at Fuji. |

The only onboard that I've seen from Toyota besides that generic 'windscreen view' outside LeMans was at Goodwood FOS

Some cool qualifying footage from Le Mans '98. Apparently Eurosport was having technical difficulties when this was being broadcasted, so for most of the video there's no commentary and you get to hear the cars in all their glory. |

This may not be 'cool' (infact, I can't decide if it's the best or worst thing my eyes have ever seen), but this makes G56 seem a little less out of the ordinary...

This time at COTA, no commentary, no music just Keen and his 911 machine. Wonderful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20V_Uf5m3Nw |

1970 Spa 1000kms, 917s and 512s dancing through Eau Rouge. Absolutely gorgeous.

Horrifying 'safety' 'standards' back in the day, of course. Photographer lying in road? CHECK Milk churns full of petrol sloshing around in the pits? CHECK Marshals standing on the apex of Eau Rouge while 917s storm past on a wet track? CHECK Etc etc? CHECK It's amazing so FEW people died back then. |

I just laughed at seeing that video. And all the safety standards they have today that didn't even exist back then. A photographer lying in on the road? One running across the track before the cars come? Insanity by today's standards.
