Penske? They've got a LMP2 team rumored to be up and running for the WEC to prepare for the IMSA and WEC LMDH programs.

RLL to run 2 BMW LMDh in IMSA from 2023, and 2 M4 GT3s in GTD Pro from 2022.

... just as I figured. I knew that Rahal would get the nod for the IMSA entry. Now the question is, who will be running the WEC version?

I think there was an assumption that a top team (e.g. JOTA) might take up the running of the cars in WEC on a semi-works basis.
But yeah, BMW have really not given WEC a lot of love in the last decade and early signs aren't great. But by '24 fingers crossed there is something in place around customer cars. |

If I remember correctly, BMW has a strict "we don't race our customers" policy. Which means there can only be customer BMW LMDh cars in WEC, if there is no works presence.

If there's a WEC project it could be Team RMG. |

Not directly related to Hypercar but there are stories swirling around of Audi buying or partnering with McLaren as a way into F1. Could presumably have implications for a McLaren LMDh programme IF it were to happen.

It has been interesting how much the story spread from a single vague report about Audi outright buying McLaren late last week. Can't imagine Audi has that kind of monetary freedom

The funniest part is that BMW ended up denying buying McLaren.

Yeah, it was like McLaren was the holiday turkey and being carved up. One of the reports was McLaren Racing (F1 and sportscar arm) was going to Audi, all streetcar projects were going to BMW and the remaining non-car specific technical stuff was left out, you know the part that makes money hand over fist.

The proportions are P2-ish. Perhaps a track day car based on the new P2 tub?

It can't be an LMP2, it's a bit early for 2024.
An LMDh Ligier? They are authorized to do so as one of the 4 approved builders and now they have no customers at the moment, I guess they decided to make their own car. We only know that they have a partnership with Peugeot in LMH but there is no LMDh Ligier. https://www.endurance-info.com/auto/...ier-automotive |

That was my thinking, if you haven't made progress on your next gen P2 you are WAY behind.
