It's reported in Autosport that the Racesport Peninsula TVR (It says run by Chad Racing under that banner name) will be replaced next year by two Panoz Esperante's. Does that make 5 of these in LMS now?

Old news then! Lovely up-to-date Autosport eh...
Wasn't there a picture to go with the Red Racing news or was that simply an artist impression? |

Photoshop - it could still happen but it was not even close to being confirmed at the time the story first ran

Good news. Now, does anyone know exactly where Oreca will be racing this year? A entry in the FIA GT Championship would be the logical choice. IMO.

Why would the FIA GT Championship be the logical choice? They have made it clear that Le Mans is their objective.

I am correct in assuming that they did not appear at Le Mans 06 because the car was too new and they did not think it would be competitive and realible enough for the race...I think they have ambitions for Le Mans over anything else at the moment...

Maybe ALMS as the works team?? Or maybe 2 teams w/ 2 cars on both sides of the pond in (A)LMS? I know most likely a pipe dream!!
L.P. ps. It would maximize their LeMans effort! |

Oreca have no plans to race at Sebring and I would suggest there is very little chance of them crossing the Pond subsequently in 2007. Expect the two day Le Mans Series official test days at Paul Ricard to include a 24 hour test (unless the uptake from other teams is not forthcoming). Either way, Oreca's focus there will quite definitely be on endurance. The aim is to campaign the full LMS season with two cars, with a two car attack on Le Mans. A presence in FFSA GT also seems likely. Oreca's Saleen programme is not, as yet, finalised. But if everything falls into place (and I see no reason why it shouldn't), expect the above. |

Raimond Narac has bought a Oreca Saleen. He wants to let it race in the FFSA GT and i think it should be run by Oreca.
But i really hope that the Saleen's will get sucessful now. |

Remember, globally the FIA GT Championship is more well known than the LMS and probably gets better tv coverage too at the moment. Oreca want to sell cars, and the best way to get exposure is to race and win in the FIA GT Championship rather than race purely for class honours in the LMS. IMO. Yes of they raced in the LMS they have a better chance of getting a entry for Le Mans this year but lets be honest, a top French team and a top French race are Oreca likely to be turned down by the ACO? I think not. |

Don't forget that a win or second in the FIA can get you an entry in the 24 as well. Could they live with the new FIA technical regs in GT1?

I dont see any reason as to why Oreca coudnt live with the new technical regulations in FIA GT. Every other team in the FIA GT Championship seems happy enough with the new rules, at least publically. If the new rules do work they will dramatically cut the cost of entering the FIA GT Championship and make entering the series more financially viable.

(Source DSC) The Felbermayr-Proton team are switching from the FIAGT championship to the Le Mans Series in 2007. They will campaign three Porsche's (two 997's and one 996). Two of the cars (a 997 and a 996) will be driven by last years familiar FIAGT Felbermayr/Ried driver pairings. The big 'driver' news, however, is that the third car (a 997) will be driven by none other than Marc Lieb and Xavier Pompidou!

Team Modena will enter a Aston Martin in LMS. The car will be driven by Garcia and a other fast driver.

According to the Bear Audi are not expected to enter the LMS.
'However, Murphy is hearing now that any Le Mans Series entrants are doubtful, that the company’s disappointment with the management and visibility of that series is real enough that the only survivor of the budgeting process is Le Mans itself. If that is so, there likely will be not only more Audi Sport personnel involved in the ALMS program, there will also be more drivers than available seats.' http://murphythebear.com/blog/2007/0...-2007/#more-43 So Audi never did wish to go up against strong competition, to make matters worse, they won't even sell their car to privateers and at least put on a show! The R10 could go down in history as the car that killed the ALMS P1 class, and little more! |
