They run the car in SRO GT America and won Rolex 24 with an AMG, new chassis for Petit.

Petit Le Mans hype starting.
https://racer.com/2021/10/19/motul-p...ight-to-shine/ Glad to see Winward Mercedes and Iribe McLaren in there. Make up for GTD grid losses due to end of sprint season. Not sure if Windward has Mauro Engel or Rafelli Marciello. They will take the fight to Lawrence Vanthoor for sure. Going to get a ton of night racing in this one. Will get dark potentially at halfway if they start the Petit at 11 am like they did in the past. Maybe a 9:30 am or 10:00 am green flag time will be a good idea this year. |

Nice to see drivers of that calibre being given a chance. Just a shame Marciello never got a chance in F1, he was good enough for him

It’s ok, we all make mistakes. I certainly knew who you were talking about. There’s no one else famous with similar names I think

Well, there is Dries Vanthoor, younger brother. He has won some races...

The This Week in Sportscars Podcast suggested it is possible that Weathertech Proton will enter 2 911 RSR's for the Petit Le Mans. That would be pretty darn cool. My guess could be MacNeil/Jaminet/Campbell in one car, the other perhaps Bruni/Leitz/Estre. Just guessing based on who has drivien for them throughout season. Maybe they will formally announce this coming week? Too bad Risi won't be there. Could have gotten one more classic GTLM race as a bow out to the category but this Corvette vs BMW vs Porsche thing (which we got in 2020) won't be bad at all.

Porsche trying to send GTLM out with a win, seems only fair they have a go given their support all the way back to GT2.

Have any gt cars won overall (where prototypes were present) since the early 2000s other than Porsche?
I'm on board with a gtlm sending off. |

Nope, and the rain and crap Conti tires were the only reason why it happened that year. The regs now won't allow that as the leader at a restart is always a DPi car

GT racing is undergoing a shift in some ways. Once GTE is gone from Le Mans and WEC as well. I think races like Nurburgring 24 and Spa 24 will become bigger and higher profile than Le Mans (GT speaking only). But that is on Europe side. On USA side it will remain status quo with Daytona and Sebring being biggest GT races even though its not for overall wins as the SRO has been unable to get anything going with their U.S based ICGT race. |

I do miss those Corvette vs Porsches battles. Great time in American sportscar racing, in fact in any sportscar racing

Corvette vs Porsche is still very much alive. Not gone away at all. Proton kept it alive this year. And it appears the Petit Le Mans is going to be a big Corvette vs BMW vs Porsche battle. GTLM might get more attention than DPI for this race.

Excellent post, I love that film! I figured the 'confirmed to be confirmed' phrasing was probably going to result in something vaporous, but one can hope. Too bad as having another car would have been good all around. |
