So what does this mean for the 2013 WEC campaign? No more updates to the 2013 car? It's still not fast enough.

I dont think thats the case. They mentioned before that they didnt run the 2013 version at Silverstone because they didn't yet develop a sprint package for it. I think there will be one at Interlagos, they'd be foolish not to. They had one last year, why not this year? I guess we will see.

If that's true, then some thought really needs to be given into how to make the rest of the WEC more interesting. Not good enough.
Keep thinking the WEC needs to finish with Le Mans in June... |

Well, if that means they can put more resources into the 2014 car then that's a good thing maybe.
It's really sad to see how they aren't given a proper budget to operate with. Their results so far should prove to the HQ that they can deliver and make most of their resources. Toyota is just crippling their own efforts this way, I don't get it. |

AutoHebdo have updated the news.
- #7 car will be the one raced, by Lapierre, Wurz, and Nakajima. - It is done to spend more ressources on the 2014 car, which will be completely new - #8 will race again in Fuji, Octobre 20 |

Do you think the inactivity for the #8 car will cost Toyota drivers? Will Davidson and Sarrazin leave the team and find other programs for next year like Porsche or some other program like G56?

Even though it sucks for these two, Toyota can pretty much afford to leave them in limbo as they`re not many high-paying seats available.
Porsche is rumored to sign Luhr and one of their existing GT guys so their permanent positions are pretty much filled. Nobody will be itching to drive the Nissan eyesore and they`re set up with their own works drivers anyways (Krumm et all). So there really isn't much to choose for Davidson & Sarrazin, they can only hope the #8 will race full time next year. |

How many times can Toyota suggest that they are only going to run one car, due to development of NEXT years car again? Seriously, these guys just aren't committing the necessary budget.

Whats interesting is that outside of Le Mans nothing has really changed. Toyota might as well have not been at Silverstone with there outdated spec 2012 cars. And at Spa they ran 1 2013 spec car so seems like they are just continuing where they left off. 1 2013 spec car for remainder. Bring the second car in for important races. Fuji (Toyota owns the track and home race) and Le Mans(biggest race of the year...).

Didn't Toyota admit that they took a little bit less power for the engine so they could keep the weight down. Who knows if that was the right choice. If Audi could throw a full blown 3.6 Liter V6 diesel engine with all its weight in their car then I can't see any petrol engine Toyota builds having the same weight issues as an Audi diesel.
Dos anyone think that if Audi or even Peugeot built a petrol engine they would have the ponies up on the Toyota. and that HPD engine as well. For all the equivalency drama I still don't feel we have seen the damage a properfuly funded petrol engine would do in LMP1. That HPD is effectively a 2008 LMP2 engine. Seems like there are no purpose built LMP1 petrol engines running right now. Unlike all the purpose built diesels that we have seen from Audi and Peugeot. Next year we are going to see purpose built petrol racing engine from Porsche with all the goodies. Possibly turbos and direct injection! Will Toyota have an all new engine as well? |

Starts to somewhat look like their F1 program. Just without the money.

The same engine line that was used back when they were in CART, that was an RV8. One was less displacement and two turbos. This engine (if its even the RV8 line) has been used for decades and served well and won races/championships. So development to a proven engine is a no brainer. From CART to F-Nippon, SuperGT, LeMans etc. it has a great track record. Why fix whats not broken?

SuperGT will switch to a I4 turbo, maybe they can share development and use it for Le Mans.

Exactly. The Audi and the Porsche engines are purely built with 2014 LMP1 in mind. Toyota might already be at a disadvantage on the engine side. I guess we will have to wait and see.
What are Audi's plans for an engine btw? Is there current diesel V6 still suitable? Maybe they will just rework the current V6. Didn't they choose the V6 in the first place because they had an eye towarsd 2014? Either way the Audi engine is still bespoke racing engine and same with Porsche. |
