From the outside looking in, I find it weird that the schedule ends by mid-September now at the latest, when it used to run until the end of October back when I got interested in the sport during the 90s. Maybe Football was not so prominent then? I find that hard to believe.
NASCAR still makes life hard for IndyCar, as the drop of TMS from the IndyCar schedule is showing. But NASCAR is back on the oval at Indianapolis next year. How long until they demand the Brickyard to be sprayed with PJ1, too? If it ever came to that, Indianapolis better not oblige to that and rather not have a Brickyard 400 than to do that. The Texas and Northeast markets are missing from the 2024 schedule, and so is Arizona where back in the day, the local ostrich festival proved more popular than the F1 race in downtown Phoenix. The best recent calendar is still the one from 2019 which has not been improved upon lately. If that had had Milwaukee and the Glen, it would probably have been perfect. We will see where this is heading next year when the calendar for 2025 will be announced. Filling up the front end of the schedule will remain complicated due to the weather, unless it's Phoenix which is not a good idea at this point anymore. Can COTA get another chance? The racing was really good there. Will the new date in June work for Laguna? |

The TV ratings between what the NFL commanded in the 80s and 90s, and then the ratings of NASCAR pulling more of that racing money and eyes, the available time and eyes for Indy is severely decreased and the tobacco money is gone.
PJ1 isn't really applicable to Indy, the banking is different and it's not being used to as much effect with the new tires and car as the previous generation of both. The NE is a hard market as no one went to the Glen, ok the weekend choice wasn't great but it still was not a well attended event. Loudon has been disinterested in Indy and actually removed seats from the track even for NASCAR races. COTA has issues but same guys do both COTA and Texas and the time you can run an event at either is football season so F1 and UT games or spring when they're looking at Indy. The entire summer is just out, no debate needed it just ain't happening. Bring 3 million friends to watch all season and then we can have some movement on the schedule. Internet rumors are running again with a 2024 no points South American race, Argentina of course being the leader with well maybe they'll consider something else. I doubt we would see it but you wave enough money and Indy will come |

Nascar announced that the Trucks will race at Milwaukee on August 25, or one week before IndyCar.
That's the second sabotaged event for 2024 after Texas. |

Not really, Milwaukee won't have much impact with it being a return date. Claiming sabotage is a bit weak in either case. Especially as THEY'RE THE OWNERS of Texas and Milwaukee wants big events to return to the track

I'm not saying it's illegal, I'm saying that it's intentional.

I don't see what illegality has to do with it and I don't necessarily see it as intentional either. Why would the owners want to ''sabotage'' the return of IndyCar to Milwaukee, when they stand to benefit from it? |

And Milwaukee is trying to get more big name racing not less. And it's independently owned, they aren't beholden to Nascar to survive. Locals enjoy a variety of racing up there and turn out for it en masse

A fly away race would help fill the gap between St. Pete and which ever track hosts the 2nd round, as well as expanding IndyCar internationally. |

2000 is not a large crowd. 1000 x 2000 is 2 million so that is not an unreal possibility. double it and you're doing well. It is an exclusive deal, and it may also be possible that Thermal is also able to ramp things up to make it a very exclusive and financially rewarding event. |

The ticket sales equal the staff and support for the last event there, supposedly handled well. But that ticket total includes all member tickets at 300 bucks instead of 2k. Figure they might get million or so and spend a decent portion of that so not exactly a profit making exercise i would guess
But keep in mind, those at this club are a lot of the guys that could bring on sponsors so worth it in that sense. Then we worry about quality of on track action but given some of the tracks already in the series.... |

I always thought the reason behind having this race at Thermal, was to attract future sponsors. |

Its limited to a maximum of 5000 so if that includes the workers and sponsor guests it could be less of real customers but if there are 3000 paying 2000 a pop....
6 million is a useful amount of money... |

https://racer.com/2023/10/23/vips-re...ible-for-2024/ Apparently Bobby was shopping Vips out to P2 teams in IMSA as well. Wants to keep him racing even if they don't have a spot for him this year. |

Uh, yeah, yeah they would. And sorry but when you need stable points you aren't taking another kid on with no oval running. And sponsors still remember since it's one of the first things that comes up on Google
