It does make you think why none of the other "super teams" have tried it up to now, assuming they can afford to run silvers that won't bring much cash with them.

In general, I wonder how scouting is done in motorsport compared to other sports.

Different series, but I thought it was interesting that Penske went the opposite way to finding a silver for their LMP2 entry in WEC. They went to someone who had come out the other end to be silver with Emmanuel Collard.

I guess that Penske was looking for experience and feed back and it is why they did recruit Emmanuel Collard.


Itis not the same strategy for United.

This is completely relevant to the discussion going on in the Kolles thread! Look at all those unique LMP2 chassis and engine combinations!

On the other hand, there are about 4000 Ferraris in that race.

ELMS is not a great series, but it's not too bad. Obviously it won't have the prestige of the WEC, but it has it's place and is a good breeding ground for teams and drivers to show their stuff. The problem is, even the GT class has too many of the same cars.

Having the regulation of the next génération of LMP2 delayed, I think it will be fair to give Dallarz and Ligier an extra joker to fix the performance gap with the Oreca 07

it’s physically impossible for me to disagree any more with this entire statement.

elms is excellent. it’s not the wec consolation prize, and why on earth do we continue to judge series based on how many different types of car there are rather than you know. just enjoy the racing and the technical challenge it is.

Exactly right IMO Bella. I've watched a lot of ELMS over the last few seasons and it has provided some terrific racing.

Well i can not say i have watch a large amount of elms races live but the races that supported the wec at silverstone were always good and if they return to silverstone i will be there.

Teams are still buying Oreca 07 today and if you order one today, you will be deliver during the last quarter of 2022 so there is a market for new LMP2.


There are a lot of Ligier JS P217 hanging around. If those were competitive, I believe they will find teams.

your logic seems sound.

i don’t know anything about the ligier but to get anybody to gamble on one even with an update kit that made it as effective as the oreca they’d have to offer a significant discount. if it’s never going to be as solid a product then they’ll never recoup the money spent on an update.

second hand orecas as essentially the same price as a new one. remember if you’re starting with a chassis from scratch it’s a huge investment in spare bodywork, a basic spares setup and enough rims etc (same as any racing programme), so being able to use an oreca for a few seasons longer then sell it all for the same price makes it well worth the investment. it was a similar situation last season - if a team writes off a tub it’s a big problem.

The ACO don't help themselves in this regard. At least they have toned down the rhetoric recently, but they still see top-tier ELMS teams as ripe to be pushed into WEC, at any cost. To be fair, it has actually worked out well for them, with the "super teams" able to run high-quality efforts in both series.

For the avoidance of doubt, the ELMS has been my favourite series to watch since VAG pulled out of LMP1.

Prema have massively benefitted from Colombo being a naughty boy on the formation lap. They're half a minute ahead due to the way the FCY fell.

Just had to get that off my chest. I know, not much can be done.

Edit - Although that wouldn't have been an issue if so many cars would just keep on the gray stuff. A lot of drivers are finding Tosa rather tough at the moment.

It's not just that, he's also very very quick compared to the drivers around him.

Just the (too) fast start alone would not have put them in this position.

UA and Algarve should also benefit, as long as they all pit quickly.

Prema tried very hard to lose that race, and yet somehow...
