i would imagine any extension that he signed would still allow him to retire when he wants even if it is early?
and if he's not retiring, Alonso could slide over to Alpine pretty easily i would imagine? Flav is still his manager no? |

Not entirely.
Fred might quit and go to IndyCar to have another crack at that triple crown. If Zak offered him a contract for the No. 6 car that would make another change of contract at AMSP and another McLaren contract would be wound up..... |

Aston Martin have announced that Lance Stroll will race on with the team, for infinity, I mean 2025 and beyond.

The Aston Martin operation seem to be on a hiring spree.. again.. with big names ex-Ferrari and the like for some seriously senior roles.
How does all that fit under the F1 OpEx salary cap? It’s hard to imagine the ‘head of’ hires would come cheaply.. |

They do seem to drop down the grid order as each season progresses, as they quietly lose the development race. So some extra development ont he current car might be needed if they are ever going to make significant strides over the course of a season.

Depends how many people and at what cost they already have I guess - like other teams, they can also have senior people on contract and be sharing their time with the road car company, so that not 100% of their remuneration falls into the cost cap.

Possibly they could try but there is no real link between AM and the racing team. It’s a sponsorship deal.

Get that but it could easily be rolled into the sponsorship deal. Ultimately, if they exceed the cost cap, there's a penalty structure and if they don't, bat on.

https://us.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1...-fia/10486592/ The one mentioned above is more about subsidiary divisions, but may apply in other "shared resource" scenarios. I assume AM is making their hiring fit budget caps by removing people as they bring new staff onboard? Richard |

May not be needed though, if as you & I have both suggested, AM is simply recruiting to cover people who have left, or roles that are needed but had not been manned previously. |

So… the in named in sources funny papers in the interwebs seem to be proclaiming that Mr Newey has signed a 4 year $400m deal to be king of all things designing at Aston Martin.
And that this will pop out in the conventional (as opposed to the pure speculation) world sometime in September to appease the Red Bull mob.. Maybe Mr Clarkson was right after all |

If anyone is curious to read the articles (Italian press) in question. Here are the links...
Speaks to why Aston Martin (dump truck full of cash, plus continuation of partnership with Honda who will work exclusively with the team. I assume Stroll also gave him the level of control he wanted (see Ferrari topic below)) https://autosprint.corrieredellospor...n_aston_martin Speaks to why Ferrari deal fell apart (Money was not an issue, but Newey asking for more authority/control than Ferrari would allow) https://autosprint.corrieredellospor..._entra_vasseur I guess we have to wait and see if the Aston Martin move is true. Re Newey and Ferrari, this sounds somewhat similar to the Bernard relationship with Ferrari, with them not really allowing him to have full autonomy over the design of the car. Which is why he decided that he would be based in the UK so that he would be able to get on with the designing without interference from Italy.
It didn't really work for him, and he obviously parted company with them just a very few years later. |

Well, now that Newey going to Aston Martin, and will still maintain his connections with Honda, it will be very interesting what direction the cars will evolve under the new rules.
The real question is, will Alonso return or hold to the contract to retire after '25. Should be interesting... |

Although most journalists believe that Newey will be joining Aston Martin now that Ferrari have "officially" dropped out due to the bidding war over him, it is yet to be confirmed. |
