Well, Star Mazda is dead, but no surprise there. Looks like the "Road to Indy" has some missing bridges.

Marco will be using #25 next year, Hunter-Reay will be #1. Hinch sticking with #27.

I don't see it... Unless Andretti Autosport manages unlock some special tricks with the DW that no one else does.

You don't reckon he can match it with Hinchtown or RHR?

Marco Andretti is a middling driver and is certainly not the calibre of RHR.

Honestly, I've always believed that Hinchcliffe was a middling driver, too, given his lack of results in both Atlantics and Lights, despite having the best equipment in the weakest fields ever seen.

Same really with Hunter-Reay, just a bit above middling, but never would I have ever imagined he'd be more than a guy with a few wins, a lot of top tens, and the benefit of U.S. American bias. Now here he is, a champion.

I'm not sure if that just means I suck at evaluating drivers, or if Marco, given how young he still is, could exceed expectations one day...

...though I don't think he's quite committed enough yet.

IndyCar cuts the value of its Leader Circle contracts by 10 percent:

Quote:
2012’s 16-round season (15 after the demise of China) came with another reduction to the value of each contract--$1.16 million, but still paid out $72,500 per race. (Despite what happened with China, Bernard honored the 16-race figure of $1.16 miller per entry.)

For the 19-race 2013 calendar which includes three doubleheaders, interim IndyCar CEO Jeff Belskus has proposed the same 22 contracts at a 90 percent value of what teams received in 2012, or $1.04 million per entry and $55,000 per race, with the expectation that some savings will be achieved for the teams through reduced travel at the doubleheaders.

Fabulous. Not that other series don't engage in this (or something like it) as well, but nice to know that the "Road to Indy" is mainly the province of revenue collectors.

No one would have ever heard of him without his last name. He'll be the end of the Andretti dynasty.

Firestone has extended its deal as the IndyCar Series' tyre supplier through to the end of 2018.

The series had investigated alternative options during ex-boss Randy Bernard's tenure, but has now committed to its partnership with Firestone.

The firm has been part of the series since it began as the Indy Racing League in 1996, and provided control tyres for both IndyCar and Champ Car through the 2000s.

Firestone racing chief Al Speyer said: "Our partnership with the Izod IndyCar Series is based on mutual respect and benefit to all parties.

"Our agreement to move forward together is a manifestation of the business value we both realise from this partnership as well as the legacy of safety and performance that we have built together over a century of experience."

Firestone's agreement with Indy Lights has also been extended, but so far only through 2013.

Things are looking good for Lola. I heard they have the inside track for the new Lights car following a meeting at 16th & Georgetown between Christmas and New Year.
