The car looks and sound awesome. It is a giant step up from the F430 in both categories IMO.
I can't wait to see it in race trim. |

Could it perhaps be ready for Le Mans next year? Be quite a big ask for a debut race though...

I thought I'd read somewhere (maybe Murphy?) that it would be ready in 2011 and there would be very little factory support for the F430 next year.

Having just finally found the time to be able to watch the RA round, it sounded like the 430 will go the 911s route and add some weight to run wider tires and the bigger restrictor. Can't remember who said it and they didnt say what team said anything, but could it be anybody other than Risi. Maybe test the performance of the 430 GT with that package to see if it's worth it for the 458 GT car?

They then modified the the 1995 race cars to be better for 1996, and these 1996 cars, were reflected in the road F1 LM cars right. Then the 1997 GTR car was not based off the F1 road car, but the F1 GT (road car.) So again the race version in 1997, was still the same body length as the road car it was based on. So it doesn't matter whether he specifies the year or not, because it is still wrong. The McLaren racecar was never longer then the road car. |

I have to agree with splatz's explanation here. It's true that the McF1 longtail was based on a longtail streetversion of the Macca.
Just read "Driving ambition", the official McLaren F1 historybook. |

1. splatz you were pretty rude, the mistake was understandable, plus the F1 GT was only a homologation special for the '97 GTR, when some1 says "the McLaren roadcar" it's pretty obvious they mean the standard F1. 2. for some1 who behaves so rudely towards some1 for not "taking the effort to look up the facts" it would be nice if you looked up your facts and saw that, in fact, the F1 GTR 1997 is 5mm longer than the F1 GT (McLaren website). 3. let's all be a bit humble and understanding towards each other the aim of this forum, as I understand it, is to discuss racing cars, not to put each other down [/hippy mode] |

************ON TOPIC********************
Risi Competizione team manager Dave Sims confirmed the team will in fact run a “highly modified” Ferrari F430 GT for the entire 2010 season, and roll out with Ferrari’s new F458 model in 2011. “The chassis we have right now will go back to Italy and will be transformed into 2010 spec,” Sims said. “They’re going to be highly modifying the existing 430s. Porsche is going to do the same thing; they’re not going to build a brand-new car until 2011, I believe.” |

I agree with you L.P. However, there is the possibility that the car does get shipped to Italy and has all sorts of parts stuck to it and it becomes a "Ferrari 430 GT2" *wink*458 mule*wink*. A boy can dream, can't he?

i agree, i think it was also a misunderstanidin, thinking the new rules would be the same, with fia and aco,
but they could still rehomologate the car to the 14'' tires 100kg more and 9% bigger restrictors, that would mean that the chassis and bodywork would have to be rewoked to fit the larger tires, and the engine would probably have to be remaped |
